Can you be a little bit more specific as to the cause of death.
Are they sick? Are they starving? Has there been a fire? Have they electrocuted themselves? Have you done anything to prevent them dying? If they are sick, they need to get plenty of rest till the message appears in the top right saying that your sim is healthy again. You also need, as far as possible, to keep your sick sim away from the rest of the family as many sim illness are infectious. If they are starving, click on the fridge and direct them to prepare a meal. Even if they have no cooking skills, they will still be able to prepare simple things like cereal, lunchmeat sandwiches, instant meals. Enough to keep up their strenght anyway until they can study cooking - using the bookcase. Fires often start when a sim tries to cook if they have insufficient skill. The fireplace can also start fires. The best safety feature is the fire alarm - an essential in all sim houses - which will automatically call the fire brigade. You can direct your sim to extinguish the fire themselves, but I think the fire alarm is best. If they are being electrocuted, they need to call a repair man until they have gained mechanical skill - again from the bookcase. There are other ways of dying: drowning, flies - if your sims are very, very messy and dirty and never clean up -, fright, a satellite falling on them. You can always just exit the lot without saving to undo any unfortunate events.
