In short, it's a challenge where you stick with one sim family, not cheating, and marrying townies, maids or whoever, until you reach ten generations... Needless to say, it takes a looong time.

The official rules are here: The Legacy Challenge

Most people though prefer to play without the points system, or some of the rules... My legacy for example, I don't play it properly, with having the eldest male as a heir and keeping them in the legacy founders house. I'm just playing through ten generations, making them as interesting as possible, and not cheating on the way.

That's how I play it, although I tend to move their house every 2-3 generations so I don't get bored

I just reached Generation 12.

Ditto.

It makes it much more of a challenge without using cheats.

chaz95 ~ The generations of your sims' families are the successions of baby, toddler, child, teenager, young adult, adult and elder

Wow you learn something new everyday. I run a fansite and I have always heard people talking about Legacy Sims but never investigated it. Now I know.

My furtherest is 3 or 4 generations. You can still have a legacy if you cheat but not very good ones.

ooh so it wouldn't be cheating to not score and not stick rigidly to the rules then? i read the rules and they baffled me! i dont use cheats in my game anyway so i might try the 10 babies to each generation thing! that would be challenging! x

Yeah! But you can only have 8 on a lot at a time. You can have more if you cheat, but don't do that!
