I think you'll be fine with the processor but even if your PC is new it doesn't mean that the card will be on the supported list as I noticed with many desktops I looked at recently in my quest for a new one. It would still be worth checking.

Thanks for your help. I'm going to get my older brother to check the graphic card for me. Hopefully it will run!

My pc is a intel dual core 2.00GHZ processor with 2GB of RAM 250GB HDD and a Nvidia Geforce 8500GT graphics card and Vista 32bit. I did the "can I run it" test and it passed with flying colours. The test said my 2.00GHZ processor has the same amount of power as a intel pentium 4 processor with 4.00GHZ. A dual core has the power of two processors, a quad core has the power of four processors. Hence the names. |

It seems to me that many people here have failed to notice that the guide at the begining of this thread states that these are the minimum requirements for Intel pentium 4 processors. NOT the minimum for a dual or quad core processors.
If you have a dual or quad core processor then your PC will run the game just fine. All you need to worry about is your graphics card. |

It is a bit confusing for people who don't understand computers but if you read through this whole thread (like I have) or even the last 10 pages it's suprising how much you will learn lol.

The easiest way to describe this is that newer processors do more work "per GHz". That's regardless of how many cores they have. I guess some people might wonder how exactly that could be true, so I will try and explain. Clock speed (GHz) measures the number of cycles per second. A cycle is basically just a chance to do something useful. A 3GHz processor does 3 million cycles every second. But the actual amount of processing that gets done in each cycle depends entirely on the processor you have. Some get a lot more work done than others during one cycle. For example, if you have two different processors, each 3GHz, each does 3,000,000 cycles per second. But in that number of cycles, one could have got a lot more stuff done than the other. And it happens that the Pentium 4 is an old slow processor that does hardly any work each cycle, so it works out as being very slow. This actually led to problems for AMD, who are Intel's biggest competitor. Their Athlon 64 processors were being sold at around the same time as the Pentium 4. But the Athlon 64 was a lot more efficient, it did a lot more work per cycle than the Pentium did. This gave AMD a marketing problem, because many people just assumed (as they still do today) that higher GHz always means faster. So AMD invented a "rating system", which compared their Athlon 64 processors against the Pentium 4. For example, a 1.8GHz Athlon 64 was actually just as fast as a 3.0GHz Pentium 4. So the 1.8GHz Athlon 64 was sold under the name "Athlon 64 3000+". Dual-core and quad-core is a separate technology that gives its own, additional, speed improvement. I think more people are familiar with how it works. Each "core" is basically a separate processor, so if you have a 2GHz dual-core processor, you basically have 2 separate processors each running at 2GHz. That's a total of 4GHz of processing power, assuming a program or game could take advantage of both cores simultaneously. Unfortunately writing a perfect multithreaded program that can split up its workload perfectly between two or more processor cores is really difficult, so dual-core doesn't usually double the speed of things. But many new programs can take advantage to a certain extent, and it does give a noticeable improvement. Quote:

Same here. Rohannnn has finally told me in a simple way that mine is basically a Dual Core (or Core 2, can't remember which) beta, which means that my graphics card will work quit well, and so will my Core 2. He's explained it so much that I know what my computer is!
