You need to be more specific.
What processor is it?
What graphics card is it?

Right now whether you can run it or not i suggest you wait till it comes out on systemrequiremnts lab, this website is really good to tell you whether you can run a game or not so if you're stuck and not sure whether you can run it or not Go to www.systemrequirementslab.com and see whether you can run the sims 3, it is not there yet but i am sure to keep you updated if it comes.

Probably not I'm afraid... the Intel 950 isn't on the supported list at all.

As far as I'm aware there's no such card as the HD 3400, but any of the cards in the 3400-series (like the 3450, 3470) should run it.

Default My Computer Specs

These are my computer specs; it was bought June 2006.

Processor: Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz
RAM: 2GB Kingston 667 DDR2 sticks
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512mb
OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3

Could someone tell me if my PC will run the Sims 3 smoothly (or if I can at all ), and if not what could I do about it?

Unfortunately my PC has only 2 slots for RAM and each slot is now occupied by 1 GB sticks so I can't get more RAM.

Thanks! I can't wait to play!!!

I think it should work. You were right, it does seem to exist, but I couldn't find much info about the card online. It looks like it will be fast enough to meet the minimum though even if you take the slowest comparison I read.

It's not on the officially supported list but it's just as new and just as fast as other cards that are, so I don't see why not.

It meets the minimum requirements. Until the game is released I don't think anyone will be able to tell you how smoothly the game will run though, unfortunately.

If you do decide you want to upgrade your RAM, you might be able to do it by swapping both the 1GB sticks you have at the moment for 2GB sticks (4GB total), provided your computer's motherboard will accept sticks bigger than 1GB. That would probably cost around £50 to do. I would wait and see how the game runs before upgrading anything though.

Yes! I can run it!

Unfortunately, I read my old PC motherboard manual and it says it only supports up to 2GB RAM

Anyway, thanks so much for your help Rohan!

Question: I swapped my old RAM cards with 2 GB RAM cards, but I only have 1.87 GB of memory. What's up with that?

Actual sticks that say have 1gb of ram acutally have 1024mb of ram, then some of the ram is used to filter things that are running on your computer such as your operating system. But if it says 2gb of ram then it will be fine anyway.

Although I could easily run the game, I hope they don't place some sort of installation portection thing where if you don't meet the minimum requirements it will not install at all, yet just mention what is missing so if the game does not run efficently I could run down to my computer store and grab what I need.

Thanks DukeRaver.

I think my game can run it now that I have more ram. The only thing I have to worry about is my graphics card, it's GeForce 6150, higher than the minimum but it's not on the list, so I may have trouble running the game.

Acutally it is just below the minimum, and I guess your graphics card will not run it. I would try and get something higher than a 6200 though, although there is a decent performance difference between your 6150 and the 6200.

EDIT: Sorry was reading the laptop requirements, my bad.

Will the Quad-Core's be running at full compacity when playing the Sims 3 or will it only be Duo-Core compatible, because if it is Quad-Core compatible then it will run faster and easier.

I have Windows XP on a laptop and I only have 1GB RAM. I have already pre-ordered it. *sigh*

They told us if we could run Sims2 then we can run Sims3. Considering for Sims2 you only need 256MB RAM I think that's a big difference...

Maybe you should make that like a customer guarantee, and when you go back and complain that it doesn't work, you tell them exactly what they said and get your money back.

Your graphics card doesn't meet the requirements. If you have a desktop PC you should be able to upgrade it, if you have a laptop you can't unfortunately.

Yes that spec should run the game no problem.

The 9500GT is faster than the 3650. However both are mid-range cards, I'm not sure how fast TS3 will be able to take advantage of, but I would probably go for something faster (even like a 9600GT or Radeon HD3850, which are about 1.8-2x as fast as the 9500) if you can afford it, based on how well-specified the rest of the system is!

If you want to save money, 8GB of RAM might be slightly excessive. If there's a big price jump I'd stick to 4GB, and maybe use the money saved to upgrade the graphics card instead - I think it would give you a better performance increase. If you are using the normal 32-bit Vista you can only use a max. of 4GB anyway, you have to use a 64-bit Vista version for the processor to be able to address more.
