You could also visit Crucial.com which will tell you exactly what RAM is used in your PC & how much it will cost. RAM is VERY cheap these days so with P&P, you could upgrade for < £20. You could also get a friend or someone to put in the RAM for you.

Memory upgrades, flash media, and usb storage at Crucial.com

click the "Scan my system".

I was planning to get a laptop with these specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2 GHz dual-core
4GB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 Dedicated Graphics 256mb
250GB hard drive

That would be OK, right? I'm not sure. I'm hopeless with this kind of thing! Thanks a bunch if anyone knows if this laptop would run it OK!

Based on these updated requirements, I think your graphics card may work, just slowly.

If you can, you would be far better off downgrading from a quad-core to a dual-core processor though and getting a faster graphics card instead.

This will probably run it, based on the fact that: "Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.". I don't think it will be very fast though, the X1200 is a slow card.

This should be much better, but if you are buying a new laptop just to run Sims 3, I would try and get a faster graphics card if you can - though I have a feeling Dell don't offer it on the Studio laptops. Simply because while the the 3450 is much better than what you have now, on the overall scale of graphics card performance, it is still one of the slower cards.

I am guessing now, but I think you will get better performance by downgrading to something like a 2GHz Core 2 processor and spending the money saved upgrading the graphics card instead - if you can.

Yeah should run fine.

I think you'd probably get better performance from a 9600. However you'll have to check the slot type if you want to switch, the 9600 is probably AGP but that chipset will use PCI-E slots.

The updated specs suggest that 6100 will still work though, just slowly/on low settings:
"Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily."

Should run fine. As with the 3450, the 3470 isn't the fastest card out at the moment so I guess the game will run on medium settings rather than the highest. If you mind about this and can afford it, I would have a look round and see if you can find one with a faster card. If not, it should still run perfectly fine though, there's no doubt that it meets the minimum requirements.

What about moi? I wanted a third opinion since I'm that hard-headed:

GeForce 6150 SE nForce 430
Approx. Total Memory: 313 MB RAM
Windows Vista Home Premium
AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800 + (2 CPUs), ~2.0GHz

I'm confused though. For the memory, my computer says it has 894 MB and for the page file, 1032 MB and 1008 MB available. Also, would uninstalling TS2 and all of the EPs make any difference?

Oh good! That's not a problem, I wasn't expecting to run it on highest settings anyway, I just want it smooth. Thank you!

It's impossible to really have 894MB RAM, so I think that your graphics card actually has 128MB memory built in, the rest is shared from your system RAM which is probably 1GB. Check in Vista's system properties though (right-click My Computer, go to Properties).

On Vista unfortunately it looks like you need 1.5GB RAM minimum. If you upgrade to 2GB RAM, the game should definitely work based on what you've posted. Although your card isn't specifically mentioned in the requirements, it does say "Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.".

My father just went out and found a near new computer, with a Q6600 processor for $400, with the intention of upgrading it...

Would TS3 be able to work with this processor?

You can install more RAM on a PC. My mum had to do it ours. I'll probably be quite expensive to take it into a computer shop to get done, though. But I suppose that's the easiest way to do it.

Yes (obviously everything else needs to meet the minimum requirements too).

400w power supply
lg internal super multi dvd rewriter 22x
500gb hard drive
geforece 7050m-m motherboard
amd athlon 64 x2 5000+ dual-core processor
nvidia geforce7050pv/nforce 630a intergrated chipset
1gb memory

is that good?
the motherboard holds up to 16gb memory 8gb in each slot

still waiting for the tower case to turn up so i can put it all together

There is no reason why it wouldn't.
