its easy. learn and you will succed. i taught a co worker of mine a few years ago who was as old as my dad who had next to no knowledge of computers. he diddnt even know what a hdd is for example yet after a month or so of helping him learn the basics , he began ordering and building his pc on components that suited him.

if he can do it, so can you and you have plenty of time to learn before June appears.

follow my link on the post you quoted http://forums.hexus.net/hexus-hardwa...ml#post1618509 and post in that forum if you have any problems or questions. they are VERY friendly there and every now and again, alot of newcomers go there for advice and ask how to build a pc. those guys are so generious that they will even tel you exactly what to order and from where

FOR WINDOWS VISTA

Windows Vista (Service Pack 1)
2.4 GHz P4 processor or equivalent what does that mean?
1.5 GB RAM
At least 6.5 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB additional space for custom content
128 MB Video Card with support for Pixel Shader 2.0
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least:

Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA X3000 or above.
2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
0.5 GB additional RAM
SUPPORTED VIDEO CARDS

NVIDIA GeForce series

FX 5900, FX 5950
6200, 6500, 6600, 6800,
7200, 7300, 7600, 7800, 7900, 7950
8400, 8500, 8600, 8800
9600, 9800, GTX 260, GTX 280

ATI Radeon™ series

9500, 9600, 9800
X300, X600, X700, X800, X850
X1300, X1600, X1800, X1900, X1950
2400, 2600, 2900
3450, 3650, 3850, 3870,
4850, 4870

Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants will have low settings selected, but should run satisfactorily.

The NVIDIA GeForce FX series is unsupported under Vista. So does that mean I can't get a laptop with any NVIDIA graphics at all?
Would someone be willing to quote me and highlight what graphics I can use please?? I'd be so greatfull..

Hi guys I'm looking at this laptop and on the review it says this
The Intel integrated graphics weren't quite so impressive, and although Intel claims a hefty speed boost for this latest GMA X4500 chipset, our Call of Duty 2 test only scored 27%. Many laptops wouldn't even manage that; the R510 will at least cope with some light gaming, as long as you turn down resolution and detail settings where needed. Is this a good thing or are they insulting the graphics ect??

they're saying it's not as good as they expected or as it was touted to be, but that it's better than many laptops. but if you look at the minimum requirements, GMA X3000 is the one listed, so GMA X4500 should be better. there are gaming laptops out there too but they are expensive. i would personally get a desktop, unless it's a space problem.

Yeah I understand um but we do have a space problem thats why we'd got a laptop in the first place really.. but after reading what it says on the first page I don't understand what its going on about for NVIDIA graphics??

I really wanted a laptop with NVIDIA graphics or ATI Radeon graphics but I get soo confused LoL

The processor requirement isn't really relevant, any laptop or desktop sold today with a Pentium/Core 2/AMD processor should be fast enough to meet that part of the requirements.

It means that you can't use any nVidia card with "FX" in front of the name (like FX5200, FX5900). That doesn't really matter either, FX cards are very old and not sold any more, any nVidia card you find today should be enough to run the game. But don't forget that some nVidia cards will be a lot faster than others.

They are saying that the X4500 is a bit better than Intel's older card, the X3100, but still neither are really suitable for playing games.

The X3100 is the card you have at the moment, if you buy another laptop with the X3100 or maybe even the X4500 it probably won't be much faster than the one you have now.

To have any chance of finding a laptop with semi-decent graphics for under £500, you will have to buy online or buy second-hand. If you want the game to run well on the highest settings you may have to spend a bit more, or get a desktop PC instead.

So what would be the better graphics card to go for when buying a laptop?

get a desktop pc mate, for £500 you could treat yourself witha much nicer spec pc plus you can build/buy a pc thats hosed inside a small case too.

imo its worth the hassle to MAKE SPACE where you live for a desktop pc mate

Okay so i have a dell computer. One thing is that The Sims 2 did not work on this computer. So I'm wondering if Sims 3 will work on here. I don't want to buy it if it will not work!

I don't know how to see what exact type of computer it is. So i need help!

i don't know if all of the Dell computers have this but mine around the button says Dimension B110.
Also, it says Windows XP home edition.
usually i would know this kind of stuff?

But i just need help! pleaseeee. ((:

Hi alexx, welcome to the forum.

It would be helpful to post some information from the dxdiag program

Goto your start menu and type dxdiag into the Run box, then press enter. If you post the information from the 1st and second tabs , it will help to see just what specifications your computer has.

you'll need more memory (they're cheap). you have 768 mb, the game needs 1000. but even so, it'll be slow. you'll just be meeting minimum... like hanging-on-by-a-thread meeting minimum.

I don't know what a 'hdd' is, lol. And to be honest, I haven't the time to learn really and it's something that really doesn't interest me so I think it would be difficult for me to learn. So i'll probably end up just buying one that's pretty much ready to plug in and go. Thank you though, your advice has been really useful x
