The graphics cards are about the same speed from what I've read. For the rest of the specs, the desktop is faster, but I think it's unlikely that will translate to a massive difference between them in the game. You would probably notice it, but it's not the usual case of the laptop being much, much slower than the desktop.

So if you want a laptop anyway, get the laptop. If you really don't mind, the desktop will probably be a little bit faster.

Go to start -> type dxdiag in the search box.
In the program that appears, "Processor" will tell you your CPU model and clock speed, "Memory" will tell you how much RAM you have. Then click "Display" at the top and look at "Card Name" to find your graphics card. Once you have those details you can check if your PC meets the requirements.
hi i check that and it said mobile intel 45 express chipset family, i think is the intel mobile 4500 it said aproxx total memory 1309mb but in the dedicaded video part it said 64 mb.

Not very well, it's probably the slowest card on the supported list.

I think you're right, sorry, I had a look at a few sites and it appears the "Intel 45" is actually refering to the GM45 chipset, which has the 4500 card. The 4500 itself meets the requirements.

I'm guessing that 1309MB RAM available for the card will meet the 128MB requirement because the X3000-series is specifically listed as supported and that uses RAM the same way as your 4500 does. Both choose how much of your system's RAM to take based on how much is needed for the game you're running.

Strange that no recommended setup has been posted anywhere. Minimum requirements don't tell us much for those who want to get the most out of the game.

will the graphics card really effect this game if you have a top of the range card, i had a 512mb radeon and i upgraded to a 1gb geforce 9800gx2 which is top of the range. i hardly seen a diffirence in the sims 2, it still worked good on high setting but i seen some lag, mainly becuase i have a quad processor and its not supported with the sims 2. will the cards power get used more for the sims 3 ?

The requirements for Sims 3 state you need 1.5GB of RAM to run it on Vista, you only have 1GB. Upgrading RAM is possible, it usually costs around £30-40 to double from 1GB to 2GB.
