sorry for all the questions but i dont know alot about computers lol
nvidia geforce 9400 isn't at the bottom, it's like in the middle. Mine is the same and I've been told I should be able to run at mid-high settings.

Well if you look on the first page even though ours isn't there, it's pretty much in the middle area of the supported nvidia cards.

Erm it is supported, i dunno why its not there. I mean its got to be supported because a 9 series card is gonna be better then say a 6 series card. We'll be fine.

Hi again all.I got my GTX 260 black edition today and have installed it in my computer. The question I have though is I know it's working as I've checked my computer and it says for graphics card gtx 260 but I've just done that can you run it and it's saying that I have 3 pixel shader but this graphics card has 4 so I am confused!Have I installed it wrong or is can I run it wrong? And before anyone says anything I have installed/upgraded my graphics card to the gtx 260 to ensure I am able to play sims 3 with med-high settings so yes this is related to is my computer good enough.
I have gone and brought a new computer and upgraded the PSU and graphics card myself as it worked out cheaper just so I can play the sims 3 on med-high.

If you have xp, don't worry you can't use pixel shader version 4.0 anyway, so it won't appear.

if you have vista/7 then install the newest graphics driver or directx 10.

if your problem is the former, scoot over to google and search for the windows 7 release candidate and make a dual boot for dx10 goodness, or just wait until the end of the year when it officially comes out to install it. Either way ditching xp will have to happen if you want to really use that card to its potential.

With the sims 2 on my pc I upgraded to 3 GB of RAM at the suggestion of someone on a sim board. My goodness oh what a GREAT decision. The game ran so much faster, I could load lots I never would have been able too and it just looked so much better. If I were you, even if you don't need it, I would do it anyway. It was pretty cheap for me but I live in the states.

If you have red flashing walls in TS2, I think it's unlikely Sims 3 will run, sorry.
Do you know your card name? (you can get it from can you run it?)

In dxdiag or your card's own settings program the driver version and date should be displayed. From that you can compare to the latest version on the manufacturer's website.

I don't think the MX 4000 has any pixel shader support, so the game may well refuse to run.

HD 4350 probably somewhere between low and medium, 3650 probably between medium and high, though that's just a guess at the moment.

It should work and hopefully not be frustratingly slow, but you may have to keep the settings on low.

9400 is actually a reasonable card, I think good for medium settings.
I would wait until you've got the game before upgrading anything. I don't really know anything about how demanding the game is on RAM since it isn't out here yet, sorry.

Should definitely run it, probably on low settings though.

RAM is generally a good way to go if you have 2GB or less, if you have anything over it won't make much difference however it won't always help. If you are struggling due to a low powered processor or graphics card it won't help, but if nothing else in that situation, you can exit the game at lightning speed ^^.

I've had to struggle over the last 4 days with 1GB of memory due to a failed module, so i now appreciate the effect of a nice set of 4GB RAM

however if you think it'll help it is a very cheap upgrade, 4GB from crucial memory for a laptop is around £42.

Thanks for the reply Nunchukaninja I am currently running XP.I'm gonna wait on the new window os being released later this year next year then buy that.I don't wanna upgrade to vista to then have to upgrade to windows 7 though I amthinking of downloading and running their windows 7 release trial version. Is it worth using their windows 7 release or should I wait till all bugs have been fixed and buy it when it's officially released. How many others are running windows 7 as their operating system?

i haven't found any major bugs yet the only problem is where programs require older versions of windows programs (such as 4od, being the annoying program it is wanting windows media player 11), but this is a very few and far between downside. I would recommend getting at least a dual boot of window 7.

I don't know how many users there are atm, but the good thing is that any bugs are really looked into by microsoft, unlike vista and xp which are effectively hung out to dry atm, apart from security updates.

it depends on your graphics card, but it won't be too good either way. My system far surpasses requirements and i could hardly play it when reduced to 1GB RAM.

If you have XP, and a graphics card from the supported list, yes.
Try the can you run it? website. (you can copy and paste the results page here, we can check then too)

The only reason I'm not using it as my main OS is because I can't be bothered to transfer everything over...
It's fast, very stable, I don't think there are many bugs at all. It is the final test version (release candidate) so there aren't supposed to be any major bugs left.

The only thing is I *think* you might not be able to upgrade from the RC version to the final retail version. You may have to do a clean installation. I haven't checked this, but I think I read it somewhere. And you will have to switch to retail eventually as the RC version expires somewhen around March next year I think

i just couldn't be bothered with vista after installing it lol, so it's now my primary os but ya i think you do have to do a clean install in march, but if you were going to buy it anyway, you would have needed to do that.

hehe good call, if you could've run it, it would've been pretty dreadful
got to admit, it's great that the sims 3 has come out in the middle of a fierce graphics card war, prices have dropped a lot lately
