No, the sims 3 will not have an online multiplayer function.

Frankly, I'm glad. I don't want other people messing with my sims.

We all remember how "The Sims Online" turned out, don't we?

yep, I heard there where people using their characters as prostitutes to earn money.

I also heard that EA/Maxis would cut off the account of anyone that reported this.

I havent played the game so I dont know how accurate this is.

I wouldn't like anyone interfering with my sims/houses/neighbourhood, it's not a good game for sharing lol.

Unfortunately, TS3 doesn't include co-operative, online, or a multiplayer feature.

I cant see why with any singleplayer theres this obsession about playing the game multiplayer. This question is asked in the forums of every singleplayer game it seems.

Some games just are better enjoyed by yourself, alone. If you want to share it with a friend, I would reccomend installing the game on two computers, placing them next to each other and both having your own neighbourhood.

Then both of you can start a family and move them into a house and see which one is more succesfull. you would both controll your own household, no one interferes with your things either this way but you still get to enjoy the game together.

I played Fable this way with a friend once, it was fun. He played evil and I played good.

But multiplayer is awesome with every game right? I mean The Darkness multiplayer that was nothing but awesome, and Stranglehold, pure online win.

It would be better if you could have the Spore type thing where other families in the game are downloaded from a database on the net created by other players, while you're playing one family others can move into the area and the database would provide an endless supply of new people to meet.

I'd like LAN Co-op so I can play my family in the same neighbourhood my sister plays her family.

The Sims 3 would probably have its own exchange where you can share Sims and other objects in the same way as you would back in the Sims 2. The architecture would certainly different, but I have nothing against multi-player play, so long it is PG-13 and well moderated.

What do you think EA Staff?

I agree with this. I don't know about how The Sims 2 is for consoles, but what made previous Sims console games like Urbz, Bustin' Out, etc. good was that you were able to play co-op.

Sometimes it makes the game more challenging, sometimes it makes it easier, but overall it was better being able to work together with someone else. And it seems like it'll be easier to add in some kind of LAN feature instead of an intricate internet feature, which would involve servers, more connection problems, etc.

I know im a little late on this subject but i would like to see atleast a lan play option for The Sims 3. I understand what other ppl are saying about it being a really bad option for online see'ing that TSO didnt make it to far but i will have to disagree with some of you with the no lan play.

They could always have that feature in the game, it is just up to the player if they want to do it. Or make it 2 seprate games, one with lan play and one without. Then the ppl buying the lan play one already know the dangers of it. But like all games and i do play alot, I ALWAYS back up my saved game or anything else that i have modified. With the sims 2, downloading custom content they always tell you to back everything up just incase. I would say about 85% of ppl that play the sims 2 has custom content in thier game one way or another.

So ya do i think lan play would be nice, it sure would be. My wife and kids play the sims 2. We have 5 pc's networked and evryone one of us play. It would be really cool to be able to go over to my sons house after he went to college to visit him, lol. Other might disagree and thats ok with me. This is just my opinion on the lan play option. Speaking of the Sims, im going to go play now!!!

I think online play will spoil the game, create lag and only make it another boring mmorpg rather than a world filled with an individuals creative mind. Also it will be annoying and expensive cause knowing EA there will be a hafty monthly fee.

On the Sims 3 website (www.thesims3.com) in one of the areas, I cant remember which, i remember reading that the Sims 3 will have a seamless easier to get to online community. This includes an exchange for homes, families etc, and also a movie editor to edit movies you make within your neighbourhood. From what I read, its basically an Official Sims 3 exchange website, but included with the game.

I'll try to find a link to this info now.

EDIT: I cant find the link, but just watched a few videos on Youtube from the Simparool user, great info/gameplay run through, very interesting. In the demo of Build/Buy mode right at the end, explains that objects youve just created/styled with Create a Style can be uploaded directly to the Sims3.com.

actually, multiplayer demands are cancers for gaming industry...
almost every single game they relase somehow need to have multiplayer on it, and now RE5 has multiplayer... that's great, they ruin the goal of the game for the sake of multiplayer, which is to scare you. now, you have a friend to accompany you, which completely erased the horror from survival-horror

If online play was to surface, it had better be optional!

I do not like the sound of online play for The Sims 3, at all. I think it will stink!

short answer: it's basically an overrated chatroom... (only with a lot of features)

There were really only 2 things wrong with Sims Online, but they were major problems: firstly they shot themselves in the foot by not officially releasing the game in Europe, which as we all know has a huge Sim fanbase. Only those few Europeans like myself who were lucky enough to be accepted into Sims Online beta really knew it existed. Secondly, there was no custom content until the last few months of the game's existence when they were desperately trying to stick fingers in the dyke to save it. Far too little, far too late.

I personally had a lot of fun with Sims Online for several years, as did many other people. The basic premise was fantastic, they just didn't follow through properly, or it could have been massive.
