I was never overwhelmed, but then again, I only ever played Veronaville. Or.. I think I played Pleasantville and Strangetown two or three times, and when seasons came out I played the new NH there a bit and Now I have my own home made NH that I mostly play.

But all in all. No. One NH only doesn't bother me. I played 3-4 years with only one NH and never wanted to play any others.

Create a Sim and spend some time exploring all the building options. Then I'll go exploring.

Like several others have said, have a snoop around, looking at the included families and houses, get familiar with the build and buy options then start small with one sim. Where it's going to allegedly be *so* different, I'll probably start slowly.
As for the neighbourhood thing, with Sims 2 I looked at a couple of the pre-made ones, created a couple of Sims in one of them, then quickly started a new neighbourhood of my own - so I'll probably do the same again once the creator gets released. I don't even look in the new ones that get released with the EPs.

To clarify my earlier post; In Sims2 I had a look at each of the existing neighborhoods and then chose one to play for a while (Strangetown to be specific). But then I quickly began creating my own neighborhood and stuck to it throughout all the expansion packs.

I tend to get bored with the basegame preloaded neighborhoods and families, since I didn't create them myself. I could never really 'connect' with them if that makes any sense. I never touched any of the preloaded families that were included in each new expansion either. I definitely stick to my own sims in my own neighborhood.

Not sure how this will translate into Sims3 since there will only be one neighborhood.

But, my fav aspect of the game is firstly, making sims with unique personalities and then building lots of different houses. I love designing my own homes.

I can see myself spending ages just in the CAS. Looking at the different hair styles, hair colours, eye colours, all the clothes and the shoes; basically everything that is there. That's not to mention all the tweaking and experimenting with their facial features and body.

And that's before I've even created an actual sim. When I eventually get around to creating my own sim (which will probably take me forever especially trying to choose the sim's traits). I'll then try testing and experimenting with build a house (or at least something that resembles one) I've never been very good at creating brilliently extravagent and unusual houses, shops, clubs, resturants........err yeah I think you get the point . Anyway I'll try to build something that I'll be happy with for the time being and move my created sim in.

Then I will explore the neigbourhood and unleash my sim on the community to cause havoc and generally be a living nightmare oh and kick over thier bins. Or I could just creat a sim that's a little nicer.

Oh and I might just check out the tutorial just to see if I've missed anything. Yeah I know your meant to do that first; but I'm normally good at figuring things out myself.

Right, it took me a while but I've finally decided what I want to do:

I want to make a woman and and man (checking out how awesome the new CAS is!!!!) make them live together, snoop around to check everything out, get them to fall in love, get them married and get them to have three children!

Just thinking about this makes me wish that the Sims 3 was out now!

Make a group of as many people as possible, and all different, and then explore! Then experiment death techniques, House building, and all the furniture. see the clothing, relationships.....etc

Mum, dad, young boy young girl. That way you kinda cover the majority of the bases for a good start.

Make a family with a mum, 2 twin children girls, and a toddler. Then explore the qualities. THEN get the mother married, make them a a kid, expand the family. Let the seasons taske their course( seasons is in the base game YAY!) and let the girls move out and go to uni if they can, or go live with their boyfriends, and get married, and start a whole town of relations. Then add other people for them to marry of course.

If I was allowed to get The Sims 3 (highly doubt it though) I would firstly fix my laptop as it would have crashed and everything due to not being capable of running the thing.

If the game actually worked then I would make one sim (a female), build her a house, then go explore. But since my laptop would have died before doing that, I've a heck of a long wait till I play Sims 3.
