Ok, just wondering if anyone can help me with the following issue I KEEP getting...
I'm running The Sims 2 Double Deluxe, University and Free Time on my pc which uses windows vista home premium, my pc matches all the gaming specs and I've downloaded all the latest patches for those games but whenever I go to play Free Time I get an error message saying that the application has crashed and it then closes itself down. This happens at different times, the most recent being after 3 minutes of playing...the longest being just under 1 hour. It's starting to slowly drive me insane so if anyone can help I'd appreciate it ![]() Thanks! |

Are you running 32 or 64-bit Vista? I've heard that 64-bit has had some issues with the game.
Also, do you close background processes before you start the game? (Task Manager > Processes - you can usually tell which ones are just programs you've had open, and are safe to close). I run 32-bit Vista Home Premium and can't say that I've had any issues. |

For example - lots and families from the exchange?
Quite often, they contain custom content or game mods that the creator has downloaded, which then are saved into the package file and installed into your game when you "install" the lot. If any custom content was conflicting with your game, that may explain the crashes. Check your downloads folder (My Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2 > Downloads) to see if anything's there - if it is, move it to the desktop temporarily and test your game. If the crashing stops, then it was a piece of custom content. If not, then it'll be caused by something else.

That exact thing used to happen to me on the computer I used to use, which had XP not Vista. It works perfectly for me on my new laptop which has vista.
It was kind of a long time ago, so I don't remember everything clearly, but the computer I ran the game on just barely met the minimum requirements, meaning the game did not run well. I don't remember what the cause was (or if I even found out the cause) but, I did download custom content. I never found any of it to be the cause though. It might have been my graphics card that was the problem. Oh and I heard that playing the game in windowed mode would help a little, you could play a little longer without it crashing. But I think I tried that and it said my graphics adapter was not compatible or something. What are your computer specs (If emptying your downloads folder like mentioned above doesn't work)? It could be that a sim has become corrupt and when the game tries to load said sim it crashes the game.
Have you tried playing without your downloads in? It is more than likely one of those is corrupt. If you haven't got any downloads then try moving your EA Games folder out of My Documents. Delete the one in My Documents and restart the game. the game will generate a new folder on start up. If the game doesn't crash then it will be a file in your old EA Games folder that's causing it.

I have this problem too. I played on XP befroe Vista and no problems. But with Vista I get crashing occasionally with the 'The application has crashed' message.
I also get my PC crashing to a blue screen (which I can it get back from), and sometimes it crashes and 'discoonects' from the monitor. But it did all this stuff with XP. I don't have any CC and only have the game on this PC. But I don't close down all background tasks. Someone on here advised me not to do it. So I just put up with it all. If it crashes when I have forgotten to save for a long time I go watch TV and next day I play another family (I have lots of families) so I don't get uptight about replaying a week of sim time or whatever. By the time I get back to the family I have often forgotten where I was up to so it doesn't matter too much.
