Default PLEASE HELP! CRASHING seconds after loading lots. I've tried everything! :(

Please could you take a moment to help me with a problem I have in game?

I have played the Sims 2 on and off since the release. My old trusty copy has worked well on the same computer (with system specs well above the minimum requirements). I've played it with University for a good while too.

A few months ago I uninstalled Sims 2 in order to save memory, although I did back up all my content, lots, sims, et cetera.
Recently I reinstalled the game and expansion pack, and the game loads up fine so I can view my neighbourhoods as I can normally. When I enter a lot, everything starts well until it is fully loaded and rendered. About a second after the game starts (once I even had time to pause the game, but it didn't help), the game crashes as the computer restarts.

I have tried all the obvious solutions: reinstallation again and again, clearing out temporary files, disk checks, removing all my neighbourhoods and content from My Documents, and playing the base game without EPs. The problem is exactly the same, no matter what sort of lot I try to enter.
My graphics driver is fairly up to date (2008 ) and what really mystifies me is that the game seems to load perfectly, but only for a short moment.

Could somebody please offer some advice, or has anyone had a similar problem?
Thanks so much for reading my long thread, bless you all for your kindness

Thanks for your input =)

I don't believe the computer is overheating. It's certainly not a physical problem. The temperature seems normal, and my computer had coped with greater strains than this, including, as I've said, Sims 2.

Sorry Shakh, I've tried countless times, and I've reinstalled and made my game completely empty of anything that could cause problems. Could you please explain what you mean?

If anybody else has advice that would be most welcome. Thanks in advance!

Must admit, its horrible because I have the same problem. I done the 'can I run this test thingy, and it said I could only play the base game, fair enough, its just the base game, and although I wouldn't enjoy it as much, its still the sims. The load was perfect, really fast, but getting into the lot and actually building the house was horribly slow =[

It could just be the disk. I would just take it in and get it checked.
