Default Conflict with Emulation Software detected

I just installed the new Free Time patch and when I go to start the game, I get that message and I can't play the game.

What is wrong and what should I do?

Thanks!

Do you have emulation software running, such as CloneCD, Alcohol 120% or Daemon Tools? I had this problem when the sims 2 first came out. Sometimes its not even enough for them to be closed!

No I have none of those programs running. I don't even know what emulation software is.

I only played the game yesterday and it worked fine, infact it's worked fine ever since I got my new computer in January. I installed a new patch today, so I'm thinking it could be an issue with that?

Oh ok. Well, seems like that is the problem. However im not sure sorry! If your sure you havent got any of those programs (including Nero, which can have its own emulation software) then i think this might be a support issue!

Yeah I think I will contact support about this because it's really frustrating. I just got to my 10th generation yesterday and I want to play on it!

Thanks for trying to help though, I appreciate it

I am so sorry that you guys are experiencing problems with the patch

I have just got off the telephone with EA Support and they have requested that you send them your analysis files so that they can look into this further.

Here is the link for EA Support.

Thanks, already done that, just now

Hopefully they will figure out what's wrong and release another patch to patch the current patch :P

It's so annoying! I haven't had this happen before ever!

I have had the same problem with this patch for Free Time, I tried a system restore as a last resort before having to re-install the flaming lot again!!! Arghhhh!!! And it worked YEAH!!! for me, I am using Vista Home Premium. I hope this works for you guys too, untill EA Games can get it right ..lol. Good Luck

I keep contacting EA explaining the issue, and they aren't really providing me with any useful information. I ask them certain questions, and in their responses, they don't even mention my questions.

They haven't resolved my issue yet, and all they do is point me in the direction of the support home page, which I find to be unhelpful too

I want to play the sims!

I have this problem too- no message but the game refuses to load. I click the 'play' button and then nothing happens- my PC just freezes! I have no emulation software either..

I hate SecuROM. It's so annoying.

It's actually ironic because I was reading about all the problems with The Sims 2 and SecuROM and I thought I was lucky because I haven't experienced any issues with it, then I downloaded the new Free Time patch and now I have issues lol. Talk about irony...

Why won't EA hurry up and fix the problem?

Do you have any CD/DVD burning software installed at all?

From what I've just read, it looks like the patch updates FreeTime's version of SecuROM to a newer one (the latest?) which seems to have this emulation detection problem.

Copy protection is infamous for incorrectly detecting many CD/DVD burning programmes, not emulation software necessarily, and a lot of other software which accesses CD drives or Windows drivers at a low level. So potentially one of your programs which was ignored by SecuROM before could now be (incorrectly) detected with the SecuROM update in the patch.

Why is SecuROM such an awful copy protection program? It is seriously unstable. Couldn't EA use something more reliable?

They were using Safedisc (Macrovision owned) previously, which seemed to be more popular and more reliable. But I don't think there was ever an official explanation for why they switched. Possibly SecuROM charge a lower license fee..?

surely this should be affecting everyone, we all have cd burning software on our computers with the version integrated into Windows itself?

why is that not causing a problem then?

Default Temp fix...

To temporarily fix this guys, I've simply(ish) uninstalled and reinstalled Freetime, thus resetting it to unpatched status.

Before you do this, go to C: > Documents and Settings > USER NAME HERE > My Documents > EA Games and make a copy of the Sims 2 Folder directly to your desktop.

Then, uninstall the expansion, reinstall, run the game once and bung the Sims 2 Folder on your desktop back into where you found it, overwriting the newly created one.

Hope that helps.

Yeah that's a point, if it's affecting me with none of this software on my computer, then surely it should be affecting everyone who updates because it will detect the software whether you have it installed or not, and most of us are running Windows. What gives?
