I was just speculating, not sure whether the problem is actually down to false detection of CD/DVD writing software.
But if it is, it won't necessarily affect everyone. As far as I know, the way SecuROM detects emulation software is by checking against a database (blacklist) of known CD/DVD emulators. If it finds software on your PC matching the database, it will show the error and refuse to load the game. CD and DVD writing programs are usually the most common to falsely "match" entries in the blacklist because they use similar techniques and files to emulators. But they are not all identical, so some will cause a problems and others won't. In fact, some (Nero I think is one example) actually come with optional emulators - these are almost certainly deliberately on the blacklist by now if the emulator is turned on. Anyway, the number of people having this problem makes me think that's not the likely explanation any more. SecuROM test their blacklists regularly (or at least they should!) to try to make sure that ordinary programs don't get "detected" and cause this.

Just got a reply from SecuROM support about the issue and they said:
"Hello, Please rename your original <SIMS2EP7.exe> (located in the folder C:/Program Files/EA GAMES/The Sims 2 FreeTime/TSBin) to <SIMS2EP7.old>. Then, click on the link below or copy and paste it into your web browser. This will open a blank webpage and a File Download window. From the File Download window click Open, extract the new <SIMS2EP7.exe> into the original's folder and re-start the application. The link for the new file is: http://www.securom.com/support/custo...0/Sims2EP7.zip If the problem persists, please send another analysis file of the latest executable to us. Best regards, SecuROM Support Team SecuROM on the web: SecuROM or via e-mail: support@securom.com NOTE: Please include the entire subject line, exactly as written including your ticket number, in the subject line of your communications to ensure proper handling." hopes this helps guys! just about to try it myself now. EDIT: This solution works! I can play The Sims 2 now!! ![]() ![]() yaaaay!

Here is my problem...
I bought a new computer with Vista, but when I loaded all the expansions and stuff packs up to BV I kept getting an error message when I started the game. It said "Please insert the orginal disc and not a backup." Now, my BV is the original disc, and it did work on my old computer with Windows ME. So I took BV off and Seasons works just fine. I tried reinstalling it, got the same message, and have since taken it off. When Free Time came out I borrowed a friend's copy just to see if it would work (because I am not paying $30 for something that won't run on my computer) and I GOT THE SAME MESSAGE! So will the above mentioned fix work for Bon Voyage as well? Or is it just that I am doomed to never install any Expansion past Seasons on my computer again?

If you are receiving the message 'Conflict with Emulation Software Detected' after installing the Sims 2 FreeTime patch number 2, there may be some issues that will need to be resolved.
First, Please try ending your background tasks. If you still have an issue with this error message there may be a conflict with SecuROM and your system. To resolve this:

I had the emulation problem when I downloaded the patch the day it came out. I asked for help on the US site and someone told me to uninstall the freetime game and reinstall it. I was worried that I would lose my legacy family and didn't really want to do that - but I couldn't play the game and saw no alternative.
I did uninstall and reinstalled (didn't lose any of my legacy) and the game has run fine since.

Assuming you installed in the suggested file path, your games can be found under
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES The file in "my documents" you can just ignore unless you plan on installing CC or making backups of your save files. Don't delete that folder though! Oh and don't worry about downloading securom, to the best of my knowledge it should come with the game ![]() Hope that helps! |
