The Simpson Game Demo is Live!

THE SIMPSONS™GAME demo is now available on Xbox LIVE® and PlayStation® Home!

In this full episode demo entitled Shadow of the Colossal Donut, one of Springfield's creepiest enemies from the Treehouse of Horror VI comes back to life. After being shot by Kang and Kodos' Halloween ray, the giant Lard Lad statue has come to life and run amuck through the industrial center of Springfield. With Kent Brockman providing play-by-play commentary from Chopper 7, it is up to our heroes Homer and Bart to work together, use their unique abilities, and bring this monstrous mechanical man to his knees.
I was playing it a little earlier. I can't say it impressed me too much, it's just a "comical" rip-off of other games, and when ideas have been blatantly lifted from other titles, they attempt to insult them. Not too witty, but I doubt the developers of the games which inspired this thing are going to mind too much, it certainly doesn't compete (probably wasn't intended to, mind you).

Uh...that's the whole point of this game, it spoofs other popular VG.

I know that, but it has done a terrible job at it.

I absolutely adore this game and will certainly be buying it. So much fun and the comedy elements are just right for me. The art style of the game is superb too.

I agree, I love the art style of it. It looks a lot better than Hit & Run, in my opinion.

Does anyone know what the level is a pardoy of (if anything)? Also, does it relate to an episode (I've not seen)?

The running commentary is pretty funny and the amount of things to collect and do will give this game some replayability (although probably make it a little frustrating)! Is there any reason to use Homer in the level (other than to collect the Homer collectables), though? I used him for a little bit (just to explore) and then switched to Bart to take on Lard Boy and never needed to switch back.

I'll definately be picking this up when it comes out, though! .

You'll need to use homer to create updrafts by breaking the fire hydrants. That's not a requirement though, as there are other ways to get Bart in the air.

I think it feels a little ... forceful with the humour. "You just fell in the water and we made a GTA-related joke, now laugh!". No.

Oh right, yeah - I used the buildings and the crane, rather than the hydrants (although I'd usually fail to reach the hatch in time from the construction yard, probably because I didn't bother with the hydrants)!

The only slight problems/bugbears I had with the game were;
a)the fact that Lard Boy only runs between two locations after he's been hit (it would've been nice if it wasn't pre-determined).
b)the camera; it was awkward at times and buildings and obstacles would get in the way, especially when trying to get around the back of Lard Boy.

I didn't think the humour was "forced", though. I guess that's just down to personal preferrance.

WARNING; SPOILER: I didn't realise that the "not learning to swim until the sequel" joke was GTA related, until now . Thanks for that .

I just don't think it feels very new.

It's a parody of other games and uses The Simpsons humour - humour we've been used to for pretty much 20 years.

I s'pose it was fun, and if you like your games to be fun (i.e. you're weird), you might like it.

The level is a parody of Shadow of the Colossus on which is on PS2.

I guess the more games you've played, the more fun this game gets. I love the art style too

Can't play the game (see the other thread about PC ) but does the game offer you freedom in how you "beat" each level? --it sounded like that reading Phenom and nayren's posts. I really like these things where it's up to you how to do a certain objective.

Thanks soony97, I'll have to look that up .

I'm not sure, Smart. The "level" in the demo seems to be a boss battle (rather than an actual level), so it's hard to say. There is only one specific way to defeat the boss (an "achilles heel", if you like), so it is somewhat linear.

There's pretty much alot of parodies, some are easily identified such as:

"God Of Wharf" is from 'God Of War'

"Shadow Of The Colossus Donut" is from 'Shadow Of The Colossus'

"Medal Of Homer" is from 'Medal Of Honor'

"Pimkin Persuasion" is from 'Pikmin'

"Sawdust Of Time" is from 'Prince Of Persia'

"Metal Beer Solid" is from 'Metal Gear Solid'

"The Windwafter" is from 'The Legend Of Zelda: The Windwaker'

"Super Hilario Sunshine" is from 'Super Mario Sunshine'

"Grand Theft Scratchy: Blood Island" is from 'Grand Theft Auto'

"Herdy-Nerdy" is from 'Herdy-Gerdy'
