Simcity 4 for me - it actually works on my computer without crashing every 5 minutes, or regular freezeups..

As for gameplay, I still prefer simcity 4... but that's more about personal taste to be honest.

I love SimCity 4 a lot!

As mentioned above, it doesn't crash every 5 minutes and it never slows down on my rig, unlike SimCity Societies.

Sim City 4 seeing as I have no intention of buying Societies for various reasons. The fact people have posted so much hate about it put me right off. Aswell as the fact I don't feel my PC could live up to the games potential at the moment. I'll thinking about getting it once I get my new PC soon.

I'm about to install 4, but Societies looks better.

societies is the lalalala one, more like a town then a city

Societies is not a SimCity Game
but SimCity creature for wii and DS is different
they actually bring back wot we love in simcity...

SC4. From what I hear Societies is a bit lalalala, and doesn't really deserve the simcity title. The problem with 4 is that it keeps getting lines all over it for me. Something to do with the rendering (I think it's related to vista since only people with vista seem to get it, though idk). But meh, changing the affinity seems to help and make it tolerable.

Edit: did I accidentally grave-dig this topic? :/

I prefer SC4 as well, however Societies does have it's own charm as a stand alone game.

I've not had any problems myself, playing SC4 on Vista, any problems I've had with other games have usually been solved with continually updating the relevant drivers when they've become available.

Yes. I've installed the latest display driver and it's fixed it. The problem was that vista would not install the updates (or rather wouldn't use them). I've been downloading them but they just weren't being used. Vista thought they were incompatible. Seems I was using a driver from 2007. I tried to get it to do it automatically but it proudly stated that I was up-to-date. In the end I had to **** about a long-winded way to get it to accept it. Now though it seems like it's fixed. ^_^

I'm glad you've managed to sort it out, thankfully I've not had the same problem with my drivers. I use an ATI X1950, I am able to just install the old drivers, reboot, install the new drivers and reboot again.

Enjoy your game.

I prefer SimCity 4 without doubt. I had been waiting for a new game or an expansion to it for years, but Societies was a great disappointment. I wouldn't even say the graphics are better. The game looks more like a fantasy game with some of the buildings.
Give us back SimCity 4!
(Sadly SimCity 4 doesn't work on my computer anymore, think it's too old - the game).

Societies is a different abstraction, and not for city fans. I think Societies is great. Never played City 4 but other versions of Sim City I've played have been fiddly and cumbersome.

Societies is brilliant, the mobile phone version, suprisingly, has a better game mechanics and fer me is one of thebe games of all time. But the PC verion is good too

SC4 is a much better game than the others imo. I also liked SC2000 (which I had for the PS). But yeah, SC4 is much better imo. But it has quite a steep learning curve. Or so they say, I found it OK (but then I had already played the other simcities so I had experience).

I like both societies and Sc4, but i liked Sc4 better

Sim city 4 takes a bit of getting used to, after a while of playing it i got the hang of it, but it is quite a hard game to play when you first get it.

Anotherthing about Sc4 is that even though now it's quite old, the graphics on it are still really good

Societies was ok but dosen't entertain me as much as Sc4

I don't consider Societies as a SimCity. It has nothing to do with the series. They should have called it SimTown (maxis already created this game, maybe could have called it SimTown 2000? xD), but of course, keeping the brand is important.

I terribly disliked the idea, it was a simple arcade game. No strategy at all. I felt awfully insulted with the release of Societies. Give SimCity back to Maxis and let them re-invent SimCity!
- as for now, I think Cities XL will smash the SimCity franchise we all love. I still have and play SimCity 4 on my Mac =P.
