I tried everything that it says on that e-mail aswell but, with no prevail. Anyway why should we have to change everything on our computers to get a game to work. Isn't it part of a game creators job to make it compatible for all computers?

Agreed.

I have tried their suggestions about dropping the sound, changing the resolution, closing down programs in task manager, dropping the graphics settings, turning off reflections and shadows, and restricting the camera. It still seems to be the same whatever I do. I can get 10-30 minutes into the game but once my city seems to grow a bit the game starts crashing.

Sound still plays but the screen freezes. I can still quick save though! One thing I did notice is that sometimes I can see through the roads and it shows the graphics beneath? Only when it freezes though. Sometimes I can ALT+TAB+DEL out other times I have to hard reset.

I have updated my DirectX and my graphics driver. Can someone please let us know if EA are working on this?

I'd still recommend you back to support and let them know that it still isn't working, they may have other suggestions for you.

Default Update from thread starter

Still crashing after trying all ideas from EA support.

Have contacted EA support and to their credit have sent me 3 replies with them finaly noticing that the graphics card I have is not supported and apparantly THIS is the reason.
Why everyone else who HAVE so-called supported cards with the same problem is a mystery but definately, probably, might be not related, but then again...................
I hope everyone is contacting EA support so that a solution is found soon as I beleive my card will work fine when the overall bug is fixed.

I have to admit defeat as not having a supported card in this and await a patch. (soon please)

I have just learned here: I can see that everyone so far with exception few DID NOT DO THEIR REASERCH (second post from the bottem.) Finn mentions the Framework 2.0. Maybe its that because I havn't got that installed I don't think.

If you haven't, I would think it will be installed when installing the game, and if there are any problems relating to it, the game probably wouldn't start at all without shouting at you about the errors.

The installer is located in the SimCity Societies directory (C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\dotnetfx.exe). You could try repairing your installation of the .NET Framework, but I don't see it being the problem.

I have been wrong before, though (just don't tell anybody).

Okay i have an idea.

Ive have had the problem with the game freezing up but still being able to hear the sounds when you press buttons on the User Interface ect.

I had this problem with War In Conflict Demo and found out that if I turn on Vertical Sync it was solved! I have no idea why but it seem to do the trick. When i got this game it would freeze after about 1 hour ish and so I did the turning on Vertical Sync and lo and behold it worked!

my specs are:
AMD 3500+2.2GHz OC'ed to 2.75GHz
1GB 800MHz RAM
Nvidia G-Force 7600GS
Latest Nvidia Drivers(not Beta ones)

So yeah it worked for me so i hope mabey it will work for you guys, if you havent tried it already.

Hi Everyone

I've got the game and it has not crashed for me once. I've been playing for three days straight and my laptop is not as powerful as some of your pcs.

Try this:

Turn off Autosave frequency (slide it all the way to the left)
Turn off Shadow detail
Turn off Night&Day Cycle
Turn off Weather
Reduce Shaders to Low

I'm reading that alot of you guys can only play for like 10 mins then it exists to desktop. Well for 90% of you the reason that happens is because the autosave fails and the PC doesn't what to and so it exits to desktop or freezes. I find this to be the most likely problem because the default autosave frequency is - every 10 mins.

I really feel for you guys and it must suck that you put you bucks and effort for something that lets you down.

Hope this helps.

Default Sim Societies crashes

HI

I have the same problem of the game crashing but I tried the method DarkRaven had offered and I had some success aswell till it crashed on me again so I'm still working out everything.

Do you know if not having Update #1 and only having Update #2 plays any effect?

Thanks

Bee

So what we're saying here that we have ALL bought a game (a good game) that is prone to crashes within 10minutes-1hour of gameplay (even less in extreme cases) and it was still released even though you cant seem to run it on high spec computers with nice and shiny grahics AND the current updates are hardly any help at all.

I'm sorry to say but i think as the customers, we have purchased a game that is to say... "Unfit" for running on our personal computers which some of us have forked out more than enough cash to run high-spec games on good gaming quality.

As any fan of EA Games, i hate to say i feel that as gamers, we have been let down by a good product that persists on crashing even with the updates at hand installed. I dont know alot about game programming/testing but i think the hassle involved to get one game working isn't worth the effort.

I've decided to take the game back. I really don't see why we should pay for a game that dosn't run after so much hassle.

Better luck next time?

Another example for the crashes. By the looks of it (i'm no genius) but i'd say your computer should have no worries runnning SCS. However running the Vista64bit seems to me what's going wrong. I've read somewhere that this game wasn't tested fully on Vista64bit (Or something like that...)

Still, atleast you're not blowing your head off. Try running the game windowed, turn the graphics and/or resolution up/down and so on. Check for updates and let the Support Team know what's happening.

As you can see, i've not had the very best of luck either but if you can get it running smoothly for more than an hour or two then you're doing great!

I found the cause. Download The hotFix.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940105

Using lower graphics settings may also help. For this hotfix to be effective on a machine with an nVidia GeForce card, you need to be running drivers version 163 or later. You can always find the latest drivers at Welcome to NVIDIA - World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies.

Instead of crashing at 10 minutes it crashes at 25 minutes.

Me thinks for anyone considering buying the game to take a second thought. As poor Nathan here has stated the Error, solutions (That don't work...) and a SLIGHT increase in gameplay time. Nathan, once again, i wish you good luck on this "Quest" to find a solutution for this on-going problem.

I am assuming its the same problem as the sims 2...the dreaded nvidia graphics card problem. My SS crashes on my pc all the time and I have a nvidia, however when i was away for a day I took my laptop and installed it on there. The game ran for a good 6 hours, which included me using msn and the internet while the game was still running but minimised. Its still didnt cause the game to crash. My laptop is a sony viao and does not contain a nvidia card.

I have Sims 2, and an NVidia card, but since I got Seasons, I haven't had any problems with crashes. *touch wood* However, SimCity only lasts for 10-30 minutes before it crashes. I've tried adjusting all the settings to their lowest levels as well.

Ok, so hang on now. My game doesn't crash...except if I try to let the start-up video play. If I press ESC before then (just after the EA logo video finishes up), all is fine. So I have no idea what the startup video is like. Damn, I was looking forward to that for some building ideas. Oh well. I'm also using a 7900 GS card (Latest Drivers) here on an E6300 Core2 Duo (1.86 GHz) with 2 GB's of RAM. Any ideas people?

Regardless. The game shouldn't crash FULL STOP. It's a darn shame folks like Burner can't get inspiration from the into vid.

My pleasure. Not everyday you fork out £20-30 on a game that refuses to run. Not exacly user friendly eh?
