Just noticed something else, if you put the camera in broadcast mode, when the camera is looking at the ends of the pitch it's a little diagonal... that's fine (perspective and all that) but:

If you push left, your player runs left relative to the camera! So in other words if you are pushing a scrum, you're not pushing directly at the opponents, you're kind of pushing diagonal relative to them....

One of the big things I'd like to see improved is the scrum. I'd like the ability to push back the team with the ball, to put them under pressure and all that... A good pack should force the opposing team to struggle to make decent possession, or to force them to act hastily or their pack to start to disintegrate. As it is now, the team with the ball pushes for a few metres, stops then you use the ball. Boring... they might as well be uncontested scrum...

Think Munster v Toulouse this year in the EC final, when Toulouse had the put-in on their own 5m line... The pressure from Munster caused all sorts of fumbling from Toulouse and they were eventually forced to touch it down behind their own line... but that sort of thing would never happen in EA Rugby

In rugby 09 i would like too see many things

1. When players score tries they do their signature move or their signature dive(e.g. Matt Giteau doing a massive swan dive, Brayton Paulse doing a backflip after scoring)

2. Updated rosters for example in Rugby 08 the player Lachlan Turner has an overall of 48... that is absolute rubbish he is Australias best young talent! Also the player Kurtley Beale is a flyhalf not a winger! and he wears a white headgear!

3. Manager Mode/Coach Mode
Firstly when playing manager mode the game should have these things - Building a custom stadium with over 50 choices, Desinging new kits after every year, relocating the club, youth academy for young up and coming players, maybe a fantasy draft meaning at the start of the coachs career he picks a team from a draft, scouting for young talent, player growth (like on fifa 0 New logos etc.

4. Create a Player
In all of the Rugby games that EA Sports have created the create a player has been so dull firstly more hair styles like dreadlockes more skin colour choices, more facial choices, more boot choices (reals ones that you can unlock) More name choices, more head gears, definitly more height and weight capacity choices, kicking stance and run up when kicking for goal and finally you take the picture of the player so their face will come up on the screen in the menus.

5. Fan Shop
In my rugby there should be a fan shop that unlocks boots, head gears, kits, stadium packs(for when creating custom stadiums in Coach Mode) official balls, hair styles for create a player legendary teams, players and much much more!

EA Sports if you read this and take it into consideration I really think you will make the most money you have ever made!

Basically we want a lot of the features, and some of the gameplay from Madden.

what iii want is..

*More Specific Offence.
The big problem with the game is that the only attribute that matters really is speed, this is definatly not the case in real rugby. this could be fixed by making the right analogue stick do different things for different players;

-A Playmaker type player such as dan carter could have a set of moves that are ment to draw defenders and put other players into gaps, which would be be good for setting up your team mates in the midfield but pointless in a one on one situation.

-A more out and out Speed type player such as Bryan Habana would have subtle direction changes and swerves for geting on the outside of players or for beating defenders one on one without losing speed, this would be good on the wing but pretty useless if you have no space or momentum.

-An Agile type player such as Rua Tipoki would have a more pronounced sidestep stick, which would be usefull for beating multiple defenders from a stationary position and creating holes in the midfield, but would also slow you down somewhat.

-A Power player such as Ma'a Nonu would have a set of bunts and fends, it would be a good option for gaining momentum for your team and drawing multiple tacklers, but would slow you down and not be very effective for cleanly breaking the line.

-You could have a Kicker Type such as O'Gara, who kicked with the analogue stick, this would make kicking with them much easier and they could have a wider range of tactical kicks.

-There is also the option of having a Distributer type player with a set of dummies, incredibly fast passes and pinpoint skip passes, this would speed up the backline and give slower, more skillfull guys like Conrad Smith, Stephen Larkham or George Gregan real value in the game.

Also, player chemestry could be built on this, so if you had a whole backline of Speed players, their poor team chemestry would make their ratings go down.
Ontop of this the backline would operate slowly due to a lack of a distributer speeding things up and a power player providing forward momentum, and also the team would struggle to find holes in the defence due to a lack of a playmaker or agility player creating them.

Allso..

*More Specific Defence!
Basicly the same premise, exept this is to solve the other major problem with the game, which is the forwards being useless.

-You could have Impact Tacklers, like Jerry Collins, who had a range of punishing tackles, this would damage the confidence of an opposition team or player, affecting how quickly their backline opperates or contribute to an individuals handling errors, depending on their toughness rating. The downside of this would be how often the tackles miss and the chance of it being ruled illegal

-Richie McCaw would become more valuable in the game if he had a set of Ball Winning tackles, tackles which could turn over posetion or at the very least slow the ball down for the opposition.

-This type of ball winning player could be countered with a Clean-Out type player, who specialised in neutralising ball winners and ensuring quick ball for the backs, the more of these kind of players on a team= the less chance of the ball getting turned over or being slowed down. This would be most of the tight five, this would be a less glamourous option then a ball winner or hardhitter, but without these players you wouldnt retain any ball.

Having these types of defensive specialists in the backline would make them alot more valuable, such as Tana Umaga who was an excelent ballwinner. It would fix the current problem of people picking a backline of terrible defenders without getting any reprocusions. It would force people to select their backline on both offensive AND defensive attributes

EA PLEASE LISTEN !!!

08 was a fantastic game, well done. BUT...

WHAT IS NEEDED IN THE NEXT RUGBY GAME IS:

- online play!

- A HARDER DIFFICULTY

- create a tournament mode (like on fifa08 u can make a tournament with your mates and even play this tournament online if your mates are overseas)

- unlock hidden teams/players - legendary team/players like christian cullen, jonah lomu, campese, olden day Wales team, world cup winning teams

- ability 2 hold players up in-goal

- updated star players, and stats

- just one 7's tournament would be cool

- something similar to fifa lounge that keeps multiplayer stats and rankings

i think drop goals are fine, not too much has 2 be changed, 08 is an awesome game just these key additions would be great

Default Ideas for Rugby 09

Just looking at others ideas, which got me excited. How sweet would it be to add a IRB sevens circuit. But the best idea i feel i came up with was you should be able to have the option to chose the old rules or ELVS. Maybe for Tri nations and S14 the ELVS are used, and six nations and european club rugby. Man I'd love to be part of EA games, I have soooo many ideas.

adding on to my previous comment. We should have the pro game mode. Like Fifa 08 where you can control just one player. It would be awesome to play as one player in rugby, calling shots, making decisions, being able to control their position. Im worried im getting over excited and rugby 09 will be as bad a improvement as rugby 08 was from 06

as has already been said, make the game in the format of fifa 08 or even better fifa manager 08 with players off on internationals and form players being picked, not the same team, also players suffering from fatigue would be realistic. training during the week and game at the weekend. Proper transfers and not ridiculous 'swaps'

Unlock old teams like
1905 All Blacks
1971 Lions
or at least some decent Video clips (87 wc montage EA cut JK's run against Italy)

Plus computer should sometimes give up chasing you when your deffenitly goin to score.

look at madden 2003, the graphics are so mint, I wonder if it's because Gridiron is stop start stop start, why can't rugby look as good?

Hopefully, it'll actually be worth buying this time. But the US isn't part of Rugby's target audience, so I'm not holding my breath.

There need to be way better unlockables. Those 2 suggested by CullenNZ are good but if you want to be able to play the game for a long time without getting bored you need lots of gameplay options.

- Unlockables: Classic Teams: ~1973 Barbarians,
~2003 England World Cup team
~1984 Wallabies Grand Slam team
~1905 All Blacks
~1971 Lions
~A World XV
~An all-time Classic XV

Videos: ~Biggest ever Rugby Hits
~Best ever tries
~Great rugby moments etc.

- Tournaments: ~Guiness Premiership
~Super 14
~Tri-Nations
~French Top 14
~Six-Nations
~LIONS TOUR
~Magners League
~Heineken Cup
~IRB Sevens
~Pacific Natipns Cup
~Nations Cup
~Churchill Cup

- Gameplay: ~Able to create own set plays
~Have lineout set plays
~Better cut-out passes
~Chip-kicks
~More detailed rucks and mauls e.g. clean-outs, proper pick 'n' drive etc.
~More control over scrums e.g. time the engage call, hinging scrum, popping
scrum etc.

Other Gamemodes: ~Manager Mode
~Be a Pro (like FIFA)
~Sevens

General: ~Edit squads
~Edit stats
~Create own clubs
~Online mode
~Next-gen
~MORE LICENSING

Default Rugby 09, what should happen!

* Harder Game Play its too easy.
* More detailed manager mode, should be set out like Fifa.
* On manager mode you should be able to buy players without having to trade one of your own.
* Up to date player stats, positions and appearences, team kits and stadiums.
* Rugby 09 store like on Fifa where you can buy boots, stadiums, accessories, alternate kits and classic teams and players eg Classic Wales from the 70's, Jonah Lomu.
* All Star 15, includin retired players like lomu, umaga, dallaglio, gregan etc.
* More tournaments like French Top 14, Heinken Cup, Magners League, Lions Tours and a sevens tournament that would be awesome!
* Design your own kit for manager mode and have a fantasy draft like madden games.
* Star Players:
Juan Martin Hernandez, Felipe Contepomi, George Smith, Matt Giteau, Lote Tuqiri, Chris Latham, Andrew Sheridan, Johnny Wilkinson, Danny Cipriani, Matthew Tait, Fabien Pelous, Thierry Dusautoir, Vincent Clerc, Yannick Jauzion, Cedric Heymens, Brian O' Driscoll, Richie McCaw, Jerry Collins, Byron Kelleher, Dan Carter, Joe Rokocoko, Luke McCallister, Victor Matfield, Bakkies Botha, Schalk Burger, Pierre Spies, Ricky Januarie, Francious Steyn, Bryan Habana, Gethin Jenkins, Martyn Williams, James Hook, Gavin Henson and Shane Williams.

My guess is that EA can only release a new Rugby title after the IRB decides on whether the ELV's will become permanent or not; and also only after the British Lions' touring squad to South Africa has been announced. I don't see them releasing a new title without the Lions on it...
