Why do most Liverpool and United fans choose to hate each other over their local rivals?

Is that just something on this forum?

your opinion... i still dont get how they steal players when players come and go anyway.... would it be fair to say Real stole Cris? or would you skip all that and just say we stole Cris from Sporting....?

as a utd supporter, i dont see city as a threat... never have.. which is why i wish them the best in their endeavours. I am glad they have been given a huge pot of cash as well because it only makes them more competitive - but they will never have the level of prestige that Utd has...

Its stupid to hate a club just because they're a local rival really... I'd rather hate a club which play rubbish football yet commit dodgy fouls, than hate a fair side like man city... Yes they're rivals, but im not FROM Manchester to care enough to hate them.

man city (fans only started going to the games when they came into money..)

birmingham (worst fans, some turn up for a derby but most games the stadium is empty)

the rivalry generated from a non football reasons
its a rivalry between the 2 cites of Manchester and Liverpool and so a rivaly was born on the football pitch between Manchester's most successful side MUFC against Liverpools most successful side Liverpool

so lets say after 100 year if Everton become the best club in Liverpool and City become Manchester's biggest side so a rivalry will be born

I've never understood why we seem to hate our nearest rival clubs. They're our neighbours in a sense, and, unless they're noisy and disruptive, we don't hate our neighbours. People go to their neighbours for help, we chat in the morning on the way to work, etc etc. I think most local football rivalries are born from hatred between neighbouring towns and cities. Southampton and Portsmouth for example, have always had a history of rivalry between the two cities. And as abomufc108 said, Liverpool and Manchester don't see eye to eye either. I don't fully know the stories behind these rivalries, but they are most likely where football rivalries stem from.

If your going to hate us at least get the name correct.

Teams i hate

Dortmund, Stuttgart, Real Madrid, Inter Milan, Manchester Untied ( 1999 Cl final pretty self explanatory ) Olympiakos, Red Star Belgrade, Partizan Belgrade, Zaragoza.

Ye, MISSED a letter, big whoop.

Come to think of it I hate every team. Ive learned that some of the teams I somewhat empathized with and rooted for outside direct comp with us can turn out to be huge lalalalalalas. To hell with al of em I say!

Is that just something on this forum?

Started in the 70s, Man Utd after a period of success in the late 60s turned lalalala and got relegated, then Liverpool took over and won everything for 20 years while United were just a mid table team, United fans just spat their dummy out and were very bitter towards Liverpool, that how it all started

Ya but Barcelona are similar to that, I'd say. Probably not as much.

Barca have many many supporters who jumped on when Ronalpingo landed there. Also, its a club thats very popular with left wingers, especially here in the states. People who are usually young, love to "fight the power" and love the idea of romanticizing the past. Ive had conversations with people who have zero knowledge of Spanish politics, people who generalize and people who attack me for my "political views" (even though Im not into politics :/). People who are into football for the wrong reason. Normal Barca supporters who are proud of their club, know their history and are respectful, I have no issue with. It's the other lot that gives em a bad rep. Attaching political views to a sporting entity is not only played out but entirely ignoring the grey areas.
