Default Dymytro Chygrynskiy moves to Barcelona for £22m

MADRID, Aug 31 (Reuters) - Ukrainian defender Dymytro Chygrynskiy has completed his 25-million-euro ($36-million) move from Shakhtar Donetsk to Barcelona and signed a five-year contract with the Spanish and European champions.

The 22-year-old centre back, the first Ukrainian player in the Catalan club's history, completed a medical on Monday and the contract included a buyout clause worth 100 million euros, Barca said on their website (www.fcbarcelona.cat).

Chygrynskiy is the club's third signing of the summer after Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic and defender Maxwell joined from Inter Milan.

He will compete for a place in the side with captain Carles Puyol and Gerard Pique, and Mexico's Rafael Marquez and Argentina's Gabriel Milito once the pair return from injury.

Barca begin the defence of their Spanish league title later on Monday at home to Sporting Gijon (2000 GMT). The match was put back because of Friday's European Super Cup, in which Barca beat a Shakhtar side including Chygrynskiy 1-0.

£22 Million!

I thought the only good players Shakhtar had were Rat, Srna and Fernandinho.

The price is absolutely ridiculous - first Lescott for £22m, now this

The market is soooooo inflated now.

Never heard of him, but young CB's are pricey. Remember Caceres.

Lescott for 24million is probably the worst transfer ever.

Look on the bright side, good see a team like Shakhtar Donetsk get some big money. Hopefully they will put it to good use.

Aren't Shakhtar already bankrolled by oil money?

Anyway assuming Milito is not likely to return soon it's a good signing imo, Puyol doesn't have many years left in him and neither does Marquez so with Chygrynskiy and Pique they have their centre back position sorted for the next decade.

Overexaggerate much?
I think Ibrahimovic for 45m + Eto'o + Hleb on loan is far worse that 22m (not 24m) for Lescott.

Well atleast Chygrinski is better than Lescott. Money well spent by Barcelona if it means Milito isn't coming back for awhile, plus he is young.

But yah he should be nowhere near that price, market is out of control.

That doesn't make sense.

Looks like you need to brush up on your European knowledge as Hleb has in fact returned to Stuttgart.

As for Lescott, he isn't even good enough to be considered for England, does that warrant a 24million pound transfer, no!

Catalan papers claim he is the Ukrainian Vidic, for that price he better be.

If he is not good enough to be considered for England, then why is he in the England squad.

Big deal about Hleb they still paid 45m+Eto'o on Ibra so don't try to evade it by pointing out the fact that I made a mistake with Hleb which has no consequence on the monetary loss they made for signing Ibra.

By being considered for England I meant first choice centre backs and he isnt, plus Ibrahimovic is a proven goalscorer in Serie A, okay maybe that is a poor transfer, but Lescott's isnt far behind for a player who is worth at most £12million.

Barca may aswell sell Xavi, Iniesta and Messi.

For a mill each.

That's how bad they've ripped themselves off this season.

I think Barca have decided that they'd rather overspend on specific players than paying the right price for 2nd choice players. Pep seems very singled minded so I wouldn't be suprised if he said to get him at all costs.

A player is worth as much as a club is willing to pay. Lescott was the last piece of the puzzle for City, he is quality and he came at a price.

Surely there have been dozens of transfers that were worse than that, you're overexaggerating, simple as.
