![]() Crystal Palace Football Club (formed 1905) are based in South Norwood, London. Their home stadium is Selhurst Park which holds 26,309: ![]() Crystal Palace's nickname is The Eagles, highlighted very prominently on the club badge! The Kit: Palace in the modern era are best known for wearing red and blue stripes, a design copied from Barcelona during the early 1970's, also another classic Palace home shirt consists of a mainly white shirt with a red and blue sash diagonally across the shirt. Before that Palace wore claret and blue, much like Aston Villa or West Ham. Here is the current home kit: ![]() Palace currently play in England's second tier (The Championship), but since the forming of the current league structure have been known to be a 'yo-yo' club, between the top and the second tier leagues. Honours: Old Divison Two/Division One (second tier): Winners: 1978/79, 1993/94 Play-off Winners: 1988/89, 1996/97, 2003/04 Third Division (South): Winners: 1920/21 FA Cup Runners up: 1990 Zenith Data Systems Cup Winners: 1991 Rival Clubs: Palace's main rival club is Brighton & Hove Albion, known as the seaweed by Palace fans. In more recent years, Palace have also had a rivalry with Millwall (who hasn't!!?) and Charlton Athletic (known as the Clowns by Palace fans). The 2009/10 season will see Palace playing no direct rival although tensions between Palace and QPR fans seem set to pave the way for another London based rivalry there. Notable Former Players: Palace have a strong tradition of nurturing young football prospects, and we'll get to the more recent ones next, but here are some players that have played for the Eagles...... Ian Wright Mark Bright Attilio Lombardo John Salako Gareth Southgate Chris Coleman Chris Armstrong Andy Johnson Nigel Martyn Peter Taylor Aki Riihilaiti Dougie Freedman Jim Cannon Don Rogers Geoff Thomas Tomas Brolin (the less said the better!!) The Youth Academy: Crystal Palace's youth academy is known to be one of the best for new young talent in Britain, with the club's youth team competing with the highly funded Chelsea and Arsenal youth teams on terms. A massive number of youth players have been promoted into the main squad and look to take the team forward. Palace youth graduates to watch out for: Victor Moses, Sean Scannell, Kieran Djilali, Nathaniel Clyne, Nathan Pinney and Alessane N'Diaye. Current situation: The club is currently in a rough patch, despite competing well in the second tier, the financial situation isn't so great, with the club having no real budget to spend on new players, relying on free transfers this summer mainly. The situation has come about due to a number of reasons, though mainly as the club is up for sale with current chairman Simon Jordan publicly stating he has lost his interest in football due to the unjust nature of the game in the transfer market, the straw that broke the camel's back was the John Bostock tribunal fee, where Jordan feels Palace got screwed over having trained the lad from a young age, and giving him the spotlight aged 15 years old when he broke into the first team, before rejecting a pro contract with Palace to sign for Tottenham Hotspur, the tribunal ruled Spurs would have to pay £700k when Jordan & Palace wanted a fee of £2 Million pounds, future add-ons could get the tribunal fee somewhere near the £2m mark, but Jordan claims that the club had already spent more on the development of the player and the youth academy during his time there. Simon Jordan remains chairman whilst he finds a suitable party to take the club over, but as an out and out Palace fan he wants to sell to someone 'with the club's best interests at heart', but while the search goes on no extra money is being injected into the clubs funds. Current Manager: Neil Warnock, doing a good job with the budget he has, some fans have questioned his long ball tactics, but he is seemingly coming round by playing more youngsters in a more fast counter attacking fashion. He has also acquired the services of rising star Freddie Sears on loan from West Ham United for the 2009/2010 season.

Crystal Palace USA
And they don't have a closer rival? Someone who would be considered a derby? Brighton is a decent haul from South Norwood, innit?

Palace 1 - 1 Plymouth Argyle 8/8/09
A game of two halves, Pilgrims had the first scoring early from a corner, Palace had the second creating chance after chance and finally Alan Lee equalising. Palace 2 - 1 Torquay United (Carling Cup) 11/8/09 Palace dominated the team from Torbay, yet failed to score until mid second half where Ambrose popped up with a good header. Torquay rallied and equalised only to concede a penalty minutes later that Ambrose tucked away for the win. Bristol City 1 - 0 Palace 15/8/09 An open game where Palace played a lot better than the home side in the first half, causing all sorts of problems, then as Palace thought they'd gone one up, with Freddie Sears getting on the end of a lobbed pass, the ball hit the back of the net and hit the structure bouncing back up and out, Palace celebrated but the ref stuttered and discussed it with the linesman, who awarded a goal kick. Palace continued to push but got caught out late on by Nicky Maynard in the last minutes of the game. Poor officiating cost Palace dear in this one, it was possibly more shocking than the Watford vs Reading goal (that wasn't a goal) last season... this one was definitely a goal, but didn't get given because they thought it was wide! Shocking.

If it wasn't Neil Warnock, I would feel sorry for you.. It was shocking, but I can't stand him, so I'm looking forward to his rant..
But it was a stupid decision, even the Bristol City players were telling the ref it was a goal..
