Now finally when someone decides to post a duplicate thread they have no real excuse for doing it as you don't have to look hard for existing threads.

This should greatly cut down on duplicate threads.

No. I think it'll become too cluttered that way, a matchday thread will inevitabley be around for a few days anyways - seeing as the match won't go on forever, although I would suggest finals of major competitions, ie. Uefa Champions League, Uefa Cup, World Cup, European Championship, possibly youth tournament finals aswell.

If you were to put up the matchday threads you would have to update this thread almost daily. Once the match is over you wouldn't want to keep that link up. Although it sounds good it will be too much work.
