Edgar Castillo is fast but lacks alot in ball control plus he tends to say stupid comments..He couldn't shine at Club America now at Tigres he will try to save them from relegation.

He had a bit of a slump, hopefully he gets back on form.

Yeah, this story first broke a couple of months ago, and caused some people to become upset at the system.

He is only signing for the reserves, so doubtful that he will ever see the field (or even make the bench) for the first team this season.

Report: Real Madrid eyeing Onyewu

Oguchi Onyewu has apparently caught the eye of none other than mega-million-spending club Real Madrid, who could land the U.S. defender if its bid for Liverpool defender Alvaro Arbeloa falls through.

That's what Spanish website Mundo Deportivo is claiming in a report released today. The report suggests that Real Madrid would sign Onyewu, at least in part, as part of a plan to make headway in the United States and establilalalala as one of the most popular clubs in this country.

It is the silly season though, so reports from foreign websites must always be taken with a grain of salt. In general, Spanish newspaper Marca is the top source for Real Madrid news and the paper's website has nothing on any Onyewu interest.

Also, the Deportivo report suggests that Onyewu would be an alternative to Arbeloa, a fullback by trade (though someone who can play centerback badly if needed). The story also suggest that Onyewu can play as a central defender and as a fullback. Listen folks, Onyewu is a beast in the air and a solid centerback, but he would get torched like a fried turkey if he played right back in La Liga.

Could Real Madrid use Onyewu? Absolutely. To date, the club has only added Raul Albiol to a defense that lost Fabio Cannavaro and came into the summer needing reinforcements. Onyewu would provide a solid option, though there are some questions about whether Onyewu's distribution out of the back would be good enough for a team that plays like Real Madrid. Also, the idea that Real Madrid would want an American player to make inroads in the United States makes perfect sense.

Real Madrid joins Fiorentina, Palermo and Ajax as the four teams most recently mentioned as contenders for Onyewu's services, with Fenerbahce appearing to have faded from the picture.

What do you think of Onyewu possibly going to Real Madrid? Love the idea? Worry about his playing time in a World Cup year? Would you rather see him in Italy?

The fact that MARCA hasnt reported it yet makes me think this is fake (or at least not that credible), if he is played anywhere other than CB he will get rocked by the wingers in La Liga, and since he would be 3rd/4th choice at Madrid I don't think he should go.

I prefer Fiorentina or Ajax.

No, he would probably have limited chances. Although, Albiol plays a bit of defensive midfielder as well, doesn't he?

Anyways, I don't think he will end up there.

Soccer By Ives: Report: Real Madrid eyeing Onyewu

There you go, barajama (sp) an Ajax supporter, said he was 70% sure that they would snatch up Gooch in the summer transfer thread, I hope he goes there.

Non-story from what I can read.

We are kind of getting an addition to the Yanks Abroad here. Yura Movsisyan (whose contract runs out after this season) has agreed to sign with Randers in Denmark.

Although he has not claimed a national team he would play for, we will keep him in our tabs for now.

Well it is the U.S. or Azerbaijan if I am not mistaken.

He would be the first American to play in Serie A since Alexi Lalas back in the 90's.

I think it is amazing that Milan is interested in him, but, do you think he will get enough playing time?

Well, I think he will start out as the third or fourth option, but I do believe he should get enough playing time, assuming he stays healthy, and performs well enough.

Quite a surprise to me though. This signing has come from nowhere! Milan were never mentioned with the other possible destinations.

Wow, this is quite unbelievable. Is this the first time an American has been at a legit top 4 club? I think he will do very well because Nesta could get injured again and now that Maldini has left and their other backs are getting older, he has a good chance of making an impact. If he has a couple good starts, he can secure a role, I think he is better than Bonera, their second choice, anyway.

EDIT: Oh yeah...forgot about Thiago Silva...

Well, Friedel was at Liverpool before, and Howard at Manchester United. But Onyewu would be the first positional player I believe.

Everton just signed Anton Peterlin from Ventura County Fusion. He has impressed on a trail.

Was watching ESPN when I saw the " Developing Story " of Gooch signing with AC Milan.

Wow. Well done, big guy, well done!
