Sunderland AFC Sunderland AFC is a professional football club based in Sunderland, Tyne & Wear, North-East England. They play in the Premier League and are one of the most successful clubs in English football having won six top flight titles and two FA Cups. They moved to the Stadium of Light in 1997 after 99 years at Roker Park. Famed for their large support, Sunderland fans were voted the loudest fans in the Premier League in 2007/8 following a survey of all 20 club grounds. Before the second world war, Sunderland were champions of England six times, winning the league in 1892, 1893, 1895, 1902, 1913 and lastly in 1936 when they became the last team in striped shirts to win the league. they were elected to the football league in 1890, becoming the first club to join since it was created in 1888, Sunderland stayed in the top flight until 1958, a record of consecutive seasons that was only recently surpassed by Arsenal in 1992. Sunderland won their first FA Cup in 1937 following a 3-1 over Preston North-End. Sunderlands only post war success story came in 1973 when they recorded a shock 1-0 win over Leeds in the FA Cup final. The club has a long standing rivalry with Newcastle United, the Tyne & Wear derby has been contested since 1898. ![]() Club info: Full name: Sunderland Association Football Club plc. Tottenham vs Sunderland - Game two 23/08/08 I am generally excited about the signing of Djibril Cissé to Sunderland, he seems like a forward that will get in behind defenders and put the goals away, I am tipping him for at least 15 goals this season. Healy too, may prove a shrewd signing for Keane, if he can transfer his international form to the Premier League then I would more than welcome the lad, as it happens he is here now and I'm sure all the Sunderland fans will get right behind him. ![]() Sunderland team news: Cissé may start but he is currently awaiting international clearance so there is no guarantee that he will make his first Sunderland appearence tomorrow, David Healy may well start tomorrow. Teemu Tainio is out for the game against his old club. Michael Chopra begins a three-game ban tomorrow meaning that he will miss the Man City and Nottingham Forest games but will return for the local derby at home to Middlesbrough. Sunderland expected line-up: Gordon Chimbonda....Nosworthy....Collins....Bardsley Diouf....Malbranque....Reid....Richardson Cissé....Healy Tottenham team news: Dimitar Berbatov has been named in the squad for the match tomorrow despite reports that he has handed in a transfer request to manager Juandé Ramos. Tottenham's pursuit of Andrei Arshavin seems to have ended as the Yids are not willing to match Zenit's £19 million valuation of the player. Tottenham expected line-up: Gomes Ekotto....Dawson....Woodgate....Bale Bentley....Jenas....Modric....Lennon Berbatov....Bent ![]() Interesting facts: Tomorrow is Sunderland's 3000th top flight game. Both teams head-to-head: Tottenham 33 wins, Sunderland 33 wins, draws 24. Last seasons corresponding game: Tottenham 2 (Lennon 2, Keane 90) Sunderland 0 Referee: Mike Dean (Wirral)

Tottenham 1-2 Sunderland Match report Djibril Cissé scored on his debut to condemn Tottenham to their second consecutive Premier League defeat. Spurs, who dropped Dimitar Berbatov were lucky to not go in behind after former player Steed Malbranque hit the post. Gareth Bale powered a header just over the bar from a corner just after the restart but it was Sunderland who took the lead when Kieron Richardson rifled home a 25 yard thunderbolt on 55 minutes. ![]() Spurs twice went close with David Bentley a threat from set-pieces all afternoon and eventually Jermaine Jenas scrambled home after good work by Modric on 73 minutes, usually this would have been the catilyst that Spurs would have needed to go on and win the game, but not this time. Djibril Cissé headed Sunderland back into the lead on 83 minutes after a great cross from Darly Murphy, it was the second time that Cissé had scored the winner against Spurs on his debut for a new club. The Spurs fans began flooding out soon after Sunderland's second goal, and with the Sunderland fans in full voice, Spurs attacks soon petered out and they looked more like a team facing relegation rather than a team that should be pushing for a Champions League place. ![]() All the talk before the match was about Dimitar Berbatov's supposed transfer request and it is doubtful that this will not have affected the rest of the Spurs squad, 2 bad performances in a week will have the fans worried and it will surely pressure manager Juandé Ramos into a decision about Berbatov sooner rather than later. Man of the match: Nyron Nosworthy Attendance: 36,064 League table: 1. Liverpool
2. Blackburn 3. Hull 4. Newcastle 5. Chelsea 6. Villa 7. Bolton 8. West Ham 9) Arsenal 10. Everton 11. Middlesbrough 12. Sunderland 13. Stoke 14. Man Utd 15. Wigan 16. Fulham 17. Man City 18.Tottenham 19. West Brom 20. Portsmouth
