Sunderland to sign McCartney Sunderland have reportedly had a bid believed to be in the region of £5 million accepted for West Ham United defender George McCartney, who is apparently in Sunderland right now having a medical. McCartney has already been a Sunderland player once in his career, he came through the academy and impressed with a string of fine performances. He soon made the LB position his own. He was sold to West Ham in a swap deal for Clive Clarke in August 2006.

Sunderland sign George McCartney from West Ham Sunderland have signed George McCartney from West Ham - just two years after he left to join the Hammers. McCartney signed a 5 year deal with the Black Cats just before the deadline as the clubs agreed a UNDISCLOSED deal. It ends Roy Keane's summer-long search for a left-sided fullback, McCartney is Sunderland's tenth summer signing and completes a busy few months for the black cats. The 27-year-old defender follows the arrivals of Teemu Tainio, Pascal Chimbonda, Steed Malbranque, Nick Colgan, David Meyler, El Hadji-Diouf, David Healy, Djibril Cissé and Anton Ferdinand to the Stadium of Light. ![]() Keane said: "I'm delighted to be able to bring George back to Sunderland, I've made no secret of the positions I wanted to strengthen, and left-back was one of my priorities, I'm delighted. George's experience will prove invaluable to us and it shouldn't take him long to settle in as he knows alot of the lads already. I'm happy with my squad now, we have strength in depth and good competition for places. I'm looking forward to getting on with the season." ![]() McCartney added: "It's a great move for me and it's great to be back at Sunderland, the club has changed alot since I left two years ago and it seems like there are exciting times ahead. The fans have always been good to me, hopefully that will continue and we can have a good season. The club has changed alot since I left but there are still a few familiar faces around, I can't wait to get going."

Cisse must be absolutely gutted, first he snubs City to join Sunderland, then they trashed 3:0 by City and then City get bought and have 10 times more money than Abramovich now.
I think he did us a favour though, didn't want him at City to begin with.
