The supporters' club branch webmaster Steinar Madsen told Norwegian newspaper Aftonposten: "We are to blame in the sense how the interview was presented. Ferguson didn't mention the name Berbatov when he was interviewed by us.

Read the article will you the only reason Spurs reported Man Utd was because in the newspaper they published quotes by ferguson talking about Berbatov which wasnt the case

here i'll quote it for you:

Quote:
The interview, published on the united.no website last Thursday but since taken down, had Ferguson quoted as saying United had submitted an offer for the Tottenham striker.

That prompted Spurs to report United to the Premier League, which in turn led Ferguson to deny making the comments which quickly reached the English media

Ferguson claimed the outcome of the complaint would be "very embarrassing" for the London club "because they are basing their complaint on quotes from a newspaper that were never from me".

Madsen added: "Ferguson confirmed that United had tabled an offer. We assumed it was Berbatov he was talking about. We might have taken it too far."
Madsen is the guy who interviewed Ferguson

EDIT: oh i was calling Spurs idiots because they reported Man Utd based on a newspaper quote how unprofessional is that? they made all this fuss for a misquote? they are bunch of fools and they called Ferguson hypocrites and everything

How were Spurs to know that some backwater supporters club had misquoted Ferguson?

If you read in press that a manager of a rival team is saying that he won’t to sign one of your players of course you’re going to take action on it. Who wouldn’t?

I think it’s just bitterness by Manchester United supporters more than anything.

Certainly not embaressing for Spurs, far from it.

So why are Tottenham Hotspur idiots?

Some simpleton from Scandanavia misquotes your manager and it's Spurs who are idiots? If anything it's the Manchester United fans who made the mistake who is the idiot.

They filed a REPORT!! to the FA based on ONE quote (which was a misquote), if they rang Ferguson up and asked him what the deal was i bet he would have cleared it all up

it was very unprofessional by Spurs and in the end embarrassing.

Ok everyone, I am Norwegian, and I have read the apology that the Scandinavian Supporter Branch posted on their website, and what happened was this:

Alex Ferguson was misquoted by one of the 'journalists' that work for the Supporter Branch in saying that he had made a bid for Berbatov and was sure that the deal would go through. (This was a misquote remember! Fergie never said this!) So when the scandinavian supporters read this on the website, they reposted it on other forums, the rumour spread and all of the sudden the english media got a hold of it and they blew it up to MASSIVE proportions as they always do. This resulted in Tottenham getting a hizzy fit against Fergie, using this ONE misquote to call him a hypocrite and what not. (And I must say that Spurs should have checked they're sources before pursuing this like they did).

Fergie didn't understand jack when this got out, and said it would be embarrassing for Tottenham if they pursued to file a complaint based on something that he knew was never said (but just misquoted and spread on forums.)

Then the Supporter Club realised their HUGE mistake and had to apologize to the supporters and the media, which they did, and now this is hopefully over...

Then they aren't great. Come on, if someone misquoted (or quoted) something bad about you, of course you will kick up a fuss. Why take a dig at a club and call them idiots if they hadn't done anything against the rules? Don't tell me you haven't made a mistake in your life. By the way, it was the Noweigian United-supporters' fault, which shows that they got just slightly more brain cells than a half-witted monkey.

Again........there is nothing wrong with them getting angry about it, but to say all those things to Ferguson/ManUtd (about hypocrite) and then to REPORT a club based one one quote is unprofessional, they could have rang up Ferguson and he would have cleared it all up, i guess spurs were just bitter because they will be losing Berbatov so they tried to get United back but it backed fired hugely

PLEASE tell me you did not say that? if you did mean it you have no idea about football so there is no great club in the world? ok

Bruv,
it wasnt even a matter of playing great, Man city scored a bleeding penalty and WE couldn't even draw... at home... Sure, it was a memorial match but pressure is something top class players should handle, thats why they are overpaid a flippin 50-200k per match.

It is indeed embarrassing when we lose to our city rivals at HOME of all places, just because of a pk. . . This is like Tottenham beating Arsenal at Highbury.. That stuff just isnt acceptable... Those likkle quotes in the media and that - dont really make a difference to either team.. atleast not in my opinion.

Its not about losing its about HOW you lose... ManU can lose to Chelsea, but it will only be accepted it the end score were 3 - 2 (and ManU put up a good fight.) "Great" clubs lose quite often.. Look at AC Milan last season... Eventhough they were lalalala, they still have respect and play good football.

What great teams do is win the right fixtures... but losing is hardly something one can avoid full time.
