Tinga out for three weeks

It could have been worse for Paulo Cesar Fonseca do Nascimento.

The midfielder otherwise known as Tinga underwent a state-of-the-art check-up after twisting his knee in training at Borussia Dortmund's training camp in Donaueschingen on Monday.

On Wednesday morning, the results were in and the club's worst fears have fortunately proven unfounded.

Out for three weeks

Team doctor Markus Braun said Tinga had suffered a haemorrhage of the popliteal muscle on the back of his knee, which has also affected the joint capsule.

The 30-year-old Brazilian has additionally been diagnosed with a compression strain. Dr. Braun estimates that if the healing process goes to plan, Tinga should be back in training in about three weeks time.

I find it hard to believe that Bayern Munich had two goalkeepers retire. I have no clue who is starting but they just called a guy up from Bayern Munich II.

Frings demands reinforcements at Werder

Werder Bremen midfielder Torsten Frings has admitted the club needs to sign a proven goalscorer.

Bremen are a striker light after Ivan Klasnic left the Weserstadion to join French side Nantes and Frings feels the Croatian frontman needs to be replaced.
He told Sport Bild: 'In order for us to improve further, we have to sign a top striker.

'We still need a striker, above all after the departure of Ivan Klasnic, who will guarantee us goals.'

But Frings still has faith in the ability of the forwards at the club.

The Germany international added: 'When you look at the balance of our strikers, then you can be happy with the return.

'Almost all scored 10 or more goals (last season) and coped well with the departure of Miroslav Klose to Bayern (Munich).'

Klose left Bremen for Bayern last summer and helped the Bavarian giants to the league and cup double.

Quick question who has been relegated and promoted for the 08-09 season?

Tinga was class in the Copa Libertadores. I think he should be called in the Brasilian national team instead of Mineiro.

BTW Tinga used to play for International.

Since this is just a "Bundesliga" thread what if I want to talk about the Austrian Bundesliga? You never mentioned it was specfic to Germany in your title.

The German Bundesliga is just called "Bundesliga", while the Austrian Bundesliga is called "T-Mobile Bundesliga", and the 2nd division "RedZac Erste Liga"

So since the German and Austrian leagues can both be called the Bundesliga does that mean that both countries keep track of each others league? Why have the same word associated with both countries?

Well, "Bundesliga" means "Federal League" or "Federations League", which almost every top division in any Sport is called in these nations. Since both Germany and Austria are federal republics, they've chosen to call their top leagues "Bundesliga".
This is no conincident nor did they sit on a table and made the decision together. Austria - as always - simply copied their bigger brother Germany.
Prior to the Bundesliga, the top leagues were called "Oberliga" (Major League), which is today's 5th division, starting with the upcoming season.

Klinsmann can bring European success - Kahn

Former Bayern Munich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn is convinced new coach Jurgen Klinsmann can help the club make a 'big impression' on next season's Champions League.

With Klinsmann at the helm, the recently-retired custodian believes the Bavarian giants can make a real impact in Europe and overcome the disappointment of losing to Zenit St Petersburg in the UEFA Cup semi-finals last season.

'I trust Jurgen not only with the two title defences of the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal but also to a make a big impression in the Champions League,' Kahn told Munich-based newspaper Tz.

'I still know him from the year we had together at Bayern in 1995/96. He is very bright and will prepare Bayern very well.

'Certainly Klinsmann will be under pressure at Bayern, but that always exists there. It is only about titles, titles, titles.

'I think it is good that with Klinsmann there is someone with new ideas and other methods.'

Yeah, I heard about him, but didn't read anything from him, yet. I was about to buy his book "How Austria became World Champion: 111 unbelivable football stories", but haven't, yet.
I think he also writes articles for magazines and newspapers, doesn't he?

I've read 'Tor!: The Story of German Football', and thought it was a great book.

I didn't know anything else about him until I saw this links that somebody posted on another forum and there are quite a few articles he has written.

ESPNsoccernet - Europe - Uli Hesse-Lichtenberger Archive

To be honest with you, I always disliked Meira, and so I'm glad he's gone. Boulahrouz may be the perfect replacement, but I fear his mentality. I'm curious to see how he does for Stuttgart, and hopefully he'll already play against Arsenal next week.

I see that the German Super Cup is being played today! Should be a good match, right? Do the clubs care about this contest or is it treated like a cheap friendly? Since that is how the English Super Cup (Community Shield) is treated.

I am watching and its been good so far. If this tells anything it might be a long season at Bayern since Kahn has retired. The new guy hasn't looked great and will need to improve before the actual season starts. If he doesn't really improve I can't see Bayern actually being the favorites to win the league.
