Futbol Club Barcelona is a sports club based in Barcelona, Seek2.com. It is best known for its football team, which was founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, English, and Catalan men led by Joan Gamper. The club has become a Catalan institution, hence the motto Més que un club
(More than a club).
They were founding members of La Liga in 1928, and, together with Madrid and Athletic Bilbao, they have never been relegated from the top division. The club were also the first La Liga champions, winning a total of 18 La Liga, 24 Copa del Rey, 7 Supercopa de España, 2 UEFA Champions League, 4 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, 3 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup and 2 European Super Cup trophies.
The club's main stadium is the Camp Nou and the fans of FC Barcelona are known as culers or culés. In Catalonia, about 55.7% of the population are said to be Barça supporters. In June 2007, the number of socis (club members/owners) reached 156,366, while in June 2006 the number of penyes (officially-registered supporter clubs) reached 1782 worldwide.
The club also operates a reserve team, Barcelona Atlètic, and four other professional sports teams, AXA FC Barcelona, FC Barcelona, FC Barcelona Futsal and FC Barcelona Sorli Discau that compete at basketball, handball, futsal and rink hockey respectively. Until 2007 there was also a youth team, FC Barcelona C.
During the 2006-07 season, FC Barcelona was the third richest club in the world with a revenue of €291.1 million.

Barca Sign Daniel Alves



On July 2, 2008, Alves joined FC Barcelona. The official price of the transfer stands at €29m up front, with €6m more to pay depending on a number of performance related factors over the next few seasons of Alves' Barcelona career, making Alves the world's most expensive right-back. Alves signed a four-year contract with Barcelona, that includes a buy-out clause of €90m.

Portugal soccer star Deco leaves FC Barcelona to join Chelsea

LONDON — Deco transferred to Chelsea from FC Barcelona on Monday, reuniting with former Portuguese national team manager Luiz Felipe Scolari at Stamford Bridge.
The signing is the first for Chelsea since Scolari announced during the European Championship that he was leaving the Portuguese side for the London club, and comes a day before he officially takes charge.
"It is good for me to be here and first of all I am very happy to be here," the 30-year-old Deco said. "I know it is a new challenge but I am looking forward to it.
"I know I need a little bit of time to adapt but I am sure I will adapt quite well and quite fast and do my best for the team."
Scolari was able to lure Deco despite interest from Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, but Chelsea could lose midfielder Frank Lampard, who has been linked with a reunification with Mourinho at the San Siro.
Deco was shown on Chelsea's website signing the contract with chief executive Peter Kenyon, although details of it weren't initially disclosed.
Deco had two years left on his contract with Barcelona, but new coach Pep Guardiola said last week that the Brazil-born midfielder wasn't part of his plans for next season.
He was barely known in Brazil and was even released by local club Corinthians before venturing into small Portuguese clubs Alverca and Salgueiro.
It was there he attracted the attention of top clubs, eventually moving to FC Porto and Barcelona.
He won the European Champions League with both Porto and Barcelona, and becomes part of the latest attempt by the Blues to claim their first European Cup title.
"The Premier League is a great league and it is getting better and you can see that with the Champions League Final, where you had two English teams," he said. "It is great that we have so many great players here at Chelsea and it is great that there is the competition which is healthy for everybody and this just makes the team better."
Plagued by injuries, Deco scored only one goal in 28 matches with Barcelona last season. He was among several players jeered by fans in the team's last home appearance in the Spanish league. He said it was his "worst season" with the club and was allowed to negotiate with other teams.
He was part of the Portuguese squad that reached the Euro 2004 final on home soil, losing to Greece. He also helped Portugal reach the 2006 World Cup semifinals, when it lost to France. But at Euro 2008, the pre-tournament favourite lost to Germany 3-2 in the quarter-finals.

Manchester City patient over bid to sign Ronaldinho from FC Barcelona

MANCHESTER, England: Manchester City manager Mark Hughes is playing a waiting game over Ronaldinho as talks continue to sign the Brazil playmaker from FC Barcelona.
Ronaldinho has two years left on his Camp Nou contract, but has become surplus after a disappointing, injury-prone season.
"He is a world star and if these things are going to happen, they are likely to take a bit of time and we are patient," Hughes said Wednesday. "In the discussions he has had with the club, I think he is very positive about the idea of coming here.
"It is a process that is ongoing. It has not slowed in any way shape or form and there is no immediate deadline."
Hughes told Ronaldinho that City is the platform to revitalize his career and he could be further tempted after compatriot Jo joined City on Tuesday from CSKA Moscow.

I feel bad for the poor lads that got released. They didn't get much playing time and now teams will probably think they are udder lalalala because they got released from Barcelona. I hope those guys can find a team somewhere that they could actually get some playing time.

just because one of the best clubs in the cut you doesn't mean your lalalala. you have to be somewhat good to get on a team like barca.

There is an unreal number of Australian Liverpool fans.

Barcelona is better than Liverpool on paper but it would be a even match if they played against each other. If they played 10 matches against each other I would think that each side would win 5.

depends on what barca shows up. the barca at the start of the season or the second half of the season barca, which failed to do anything right. either way messi would tear liverpools slow defense up.

anyway i have great respect for Barca. Barca and PAOK have alot of in common especially there ownership style. owned by the fans
