definitely a good result. good to see scott brown finally doing something with his playing. also good to see loovens making an impact and donati allowed back into the squad. still i should like to see brown replaced more often, unless he wants to be serious about this whole scoring thing that he's remembered how to do today. other than that i expect crosas more often, loovens more often and success. we'll see

Samaras puts Celtic on easy street 24 Sep 2008
Georgios Samaras took his goal tally to nine in six games as Celtic eased into the quarter-finals of the Co-operative Insurance Cup by brushing aside Livingston at Parkhead.

A Glenn Loovens header from a Paul Caddis cross in the 23rd minute gave the Hoops a first-half lead against the First Division leaders who simply never looked like producing a shock.

Greece international Samaras showed why he has established himself as Celtic’s No 1striker after making his loan deal from Manchester City permanent when he added a second on the hour, heading in from close range after being set up by Loovens.

With 10 minutes left, Samaras turned provider for Scott Brown, on for Massimo Donati, to grab the third and there was still time for the Greek to score his second from the spot after Shaun Maloney, who had replaced Scott McDonald, was tripped in the box by Livi defender Dave Mackay.

With tougher games against Aberdeen and Villarreal coming up, Celtic manager Gordon Strachan made use of his rotation system with seven changes to his side following Sunday’s Clydesdale Bank Premier League win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Livi, who won the cup four years ago when they beat Hibernian 2-0 at Hampden, retained their confidence but Celtic were gradually grinding them down and in the 23rd minute they took the lead through Loovens.

In the 61st minute, after McGeady was brought down by Mackay, Paul Hartley curled the free-kick against the bar. But the home side were not to be denied, keeping the pressure on until McGeady crossed for Loovens to knock back to the unmarked Samaras to head into an empty net.

Celtic were cruising and in the 80th minute Samaras played a one-two with Brown, allowing the former Hibernian midfielder to flick the ball over McKenzie for the third.

Maloney won a penalty in the 84th minute when he was tripped by Mackay and Samaras scored from the spot.

Good news Nihat is out he is the kind of nippy intelligent striker our defence struggles against!

I'm feeling ok about the game tonight i mean we played well against Porto and Feyenoord pre-season, im normally quite downbeat going into away CL games (with good reason! lol) but what the heck i think we'll come away with a respectable 1-1 draw.

Mon the Hoops!!!

i was surprised at our play. i thought it was mostly good, although i still cant believe that strachan continues to play scott brown instead of someone clearly better *cough* crosas *cough* robson *cough*. him and brown must be lovers or something. it's just mind boggling.

we know that our defense is awful. samaras had a bunch of chances but wasnt getting backed up by anyone else really. i think leaving sammi up top alone is a mistake. naka was shockingly bad. the passing was awful thats why i say we need crosas.

4 nil to the celtic!

maloney absolutely skinned the hamilton defense. a lil jinky action there.

now what was wrong with that lineup that WGS had?. wish something like that could be done every game. start crosas.

Mcgeady plays much better in the right wing
Nakamura Plays Much better in the left wing

definitely.

do we think that barry robson could potentially be a temporary solution to our leftback problem? i thought he was pretty solid

He was amazing at left back, i'm pretty sure thats his best position tbh he also stated he likes it there and he still gets up in attack plus has a better pass/cross than naylor.
