I am a bit disappointed (by the pics) at the amount of people there. What was the announced attendance?

9,125. There weren't that much more there for Celtic last year though. If people aren't gonna go to a Fire game they aren't gonna go to a Fire game vs. a foreign club. But then again the average attendance is like 13-14k. These tix were more expensive.
Mid week games doesn't draw a big crowd. Fire House is always there though. ![]()

Washington, D.C. - D.C. United announced the club has acquired midfielder/defender Ivan Guerrero in a trade with the San Jose Earthquakes for a partial allocation. The 30-year-old Honduras native, who has earned 79 caps with his country's national team, has a green card and will be available for selection when United hosts the Kansas City Wizards on Saturday, August 2. He will not be eligible to suit up for the Black-and-Red in U.S. Open Cup play, as he has already competed in the event as a member of the Earthquakes. Guerrero is scheduled to arrive in DC this evening and report to United's training session tomorrow morning.
"We are very excited to have concluded a trade to acquire Ivan," United General Manager Dave Kasper said. "He is a honest and hardworking player who has terrific experience both in MLS and with the National Team of Honduras. Ivan is a great fit for our style of play, and we look forward to his contributions to our club." Guerrero arrived in San Jose last November, having been acquired in the 2007 MLS Expansion Draft. In 14 appearances (13 starts) for the Earthquakes this season, he has tallied one goal. Before joining the Earthquakes, Guerrero was a member of the Chicago Fire since 2005, tallying two goals and five assists and garnering Fire/Honda MVP, Fire Defender of the Year, and MLS All-Star honors in his first season. In 2006, he led the Fire in assists (nine) and helped lead his team to the playoffs. During the 2007 season, Guerrero notched one goal and two assists for Chicago. Prior to coming to MLS, Guerrero played with Peñarol of the Uruguayan First Division, where he played in the prestigious Copa Libertadores. In 2003, he spent time in his native country playing for CD Motagua, where he began his professional career from 1996-2000. He then spent two years with English-side Coventry City from 2000-2002. Guerrero brings international experience to the Black-and-Red, having been a fixture of the Honduran National Team since 2000. He has played in important tournaments such as World Cup qualifiers and Gold Cup, and captained the Honduras Under 23 team to their surprising run to the country's first Olympic appearance at the 2000 games. Player vitals: Name: Ivan Guerrero Position: Midfielder/Defender Height: 5-7 Weight: 170 Jersey: 12 Date of Birth: 11-30-1977 Age: 30 Place of Birth: Comayagua, Honduras Hometown: Catacamas, Honduras Citizenship: Honduran (green card) Last Club: San Jose (MLS) Acquired: From the San Jose Earthquakes on July 31, 2008, in exchange for a partial allocation. PAULSON, PORTLAND TO SUBMIT APPLICATION FOR MLS EXPANSION FRANCHISE
For immediate release: July 31, 2008 PORTLAND, Ore. – Merritt Paulson, owner and president of the Portland Timbers and Portland Beavers, today announced plans to submit an application for a Major League Soccer (MLS) franchise that would play at PGE Park in downtown Portland, Ore. MLS today announced the timeline and application process for the league’s next two expansion teams, with plans to add two clubs by 2011 to bring the league to 18 teams. MLS, which will consider markets in the United States and Canada, has set an Oct. 15, 2008, deadline for applications. “There is no doubt in my mind that Major League Soccer in Portland would both add a tremendous amount to the league and have a phenomenally positive impact on our community and state,” Paulson said. “We have the most ardent and authentic soccer fanbase in the United States, and Soccer City USA deserves a Major League Soccer team. “In the coming months, we look forward to making an exceptionally strong case to both MLS and our community as to why Portland should be designated as one of the next two MLS expansion cities.” MLS has indicated that an announcement regarding the next two expansion clubs will take place during the fourth quarter of 2008 or the first quarter of 2009. About Major League Soccer Headquartered in New York City, Major League Soccer is the top-flight professional soccer league in the United States and features many stars from the U.S. and around the world. Now in its 13th season, the 14 teams in MLS are: the Chicago Fire, Colorado Rapids, Chivas USA, Columbus Crew, D.C. United, FC Dallas, Houston Dynamo, Kansas City Wizards, Los Angeles Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, New England Revolution, Real Salt Lake, San Jose Earthquakes and Toronto FC. Seattle Sounders FC will join the League in 2009 and a Philadelphia expansion team will debut in 2010. |

Once they reach 18 clubs, I believe it should suffice for a couple decades and the league should avoid adding more teams.
*The focus following that ideal number of 18 clubs, should turn to making sure every club has their own " SSS ". *Following the stadium focus, I'd like to see the league find a managable system to put in place, allowing the salary cap restraints to be loosened and/or removed, if they can limit the chance of a team occuring serious finanical debt or going bankrupt entirely. *Meanwhile, perhaps during that time of continued development & league growth, the collective MLS-braintrust can devise a joint relationship with the NASL that forms some type of promotion/demotion version suitable for both fans and clubs, alike. - - - ^^ That'd be my ideal plan of attack for the league.

The Dynamo defeated the Crew 2-0 just a few hours ago.
I could not attend the match since I had relatives flying in from El Salvador and I had to go pick them up. Hopefully I can attend the next Dynamo home match. |

I had missed the fact that Nyarko scored his first goal for Chicago the other day. And it was a nice finish. Score one for Tech!

The Superliga final is tomorrow. I predict that the Dynamo will win 2-1.
I hope my power does not go out tomorrow since Tropical Storm Edouard ilalalalaing in a few hours and it is likely to cause some blackouts around the city. I'm currently going to the store to buy a radio just in case. |

There are a few rumors Twellman may get some time. We have handled the Dynamo well this year so far. Although we know what happens when we meet in finals. I still think we can pull of a win.
I predict 1-0 Revs, Ralston with the goal. EDIT: Just heard that we are taking the $150,000 for the winner and the $100,000 for the runner up, and putting it together and spliiting it regardless of the result tomorrow. Last edited by Y R U so Chunky; 05-08-2008 at 03:15 AM.. |

You can catch an English language version online. Not the best quality, and for some reason, they never display the score. But its at least coverage (for those of us without Spanish speaking channels).

Oh, and Garber has come out and said that the teams will not be allowed to split the money like they had hoped.
***. I really don't like Garber as the man who heads my soccer league.
