DeGuzman weighing "significant" offer from Toronto FC

Toronto FC want Julian DeGuzman badly and is prepared to break the bank (of Montreal) to make it happen.

SBI correspondent and Canadian soccer expert Duane Rollins reported on his website, The 24th Minute, that TFC has made a seven-figure offer for the soon-to-be-former Deportivo La Coruna star. In an interview with the

Canadian radio show It's Called Football, DeGuzman revealed that he is considering a large offer from Toronto, with Rollins reporting that the offer on the table would make him the second highest paid player in MLS.

Sources have told SBI that TFC has already begun shopping other players in order to make room under the cap in case DeGuzman does accept the offer, with Welsh midfielder Carl Robinson likely to be dealt to make way for the Canadian national team captain. The rapid rise of rookie midfielder Sam Cronin, and Amado Guevara's ability to play a deeper midfield role, would make Robinson expendable of DeGuzman were on board, and Robinson's salary slot would make squeezing a DeGuzman DP salary onto the salary cap that much easier.
Would be a quality signing for TFC and the leauge, the money is kinda ridiculous, the link the story has a $10 million deal for 3 years, and the other one has a $4 million deal for what sounds like half a season... which is weird to say the least.

They are always complaining about a lack of Canadian talent though. So it makes sense that they would go for him in such a manner.

Donovan is 27, but I believe he was 25 when the rule first came into play.

From a PR & competition standpoint, I like the idea for Toronto.

However, only if it's for an entire season....this 1/2 a season garbage is a trend that needs to stop before it continues.

FIFA cancels all-star soccer match in L.A. - FOX Sports on MSN.
  • Game originally set for July 5th
  • Moved up to July 4th
  • Officials waited until July 6th to announce the cancellation.
Ugh...huh?

According to my calendar, July 4th is followed by July 5th & finally July 6th.

I'm sure Beckham and 19 Entertainment is somehow to blame.

Nightmare season leads to Red Bulls summit in Austria

The New York Red Bulls are enduring one of the worst seasons in Major League Soccer history, a season so bad that the normally uninvolved Red Bull ownership in Salzburg, Austria has taken notice.

In fact, Red Bulls owners are so concerned with the club's disaster of a season that they have called on the team's decision makers to explain themselves. Sources have told SBI that Red Bulls managing director Erik Stover (pictured) and technical director Jeff Agoos are in Austria, having been summoned there to explain the team's horrendous season in meetings that could lead to a major shake-up as soon as the end of this week (a bye week for the club).

One person not in Austria is Red Bulls head coach Juan Carlos Osorio, who looks like a candidate to be fired this week, some eight months after leading the club to its first MLS Cup final appearance. That appearance may not be enough to save him from a 2009 season that has turned into a distaster, with the club holding a league-worst 2-13-4 record.
I hope these Austrians have taken notice of what's going on, and decide that changes in the front office (along with firing JCO) neeed to be made quickly, what a lalalalaing disaster this team is.

Yeah, that was quite interesting. Also, not much other information, which was really weird.

Looks really good, Dena. If nothing else, at least that's one bright spot to build upon for next year.

Does anyone know if Sikora and Van den Bergh are still playing over there?

Sikora (if you mean Victor) moved to the A-Leauge, Van den Bergh plays for FC Dallas, he left my club in the winter and without him we suck.

Ok thanks mate. Yes, I mean Victor Sikora. I didn't know that he moved to the A-league As for Van den Bergh, he's really good. He's even got 1 cap for The Netherlands NT. Has he scored a lot of goals for NYRB?

These are the two best fixtures of the week, for my money.

Big game for my boys hosting Columbus.

I'm going to be flipping back and forth with the US game, against Haiti, once that comes on.

Hate that they're playing at the same time but I'll choose watching Country over Club, even if it is our B-team going against Haiti.

Will make an effort to stay up and watch it.

UFC is on then Sunday night, at 3am here.
