Montero is absolutely brilliant. Can't wait for the rest of the season. Up the Sounders! What an atmosphere at the game. It was amazing and as for our team, we can only get better with the likes of Ljungberg joining the squad. Le Toux was also good towards the end with some good crosses. Reminds me of Beckham in the way he whips his foot around the ball.

Osorio needs to play with Two fowards, Domenic Oduro can provide that extra fun for Angel. Yeah hopefully the teams gets togehter. I still don't think Cepero is that great....but I suppose.

From what I saw, it really looks as if NY/NJ is missing Dave Van den Bergh's links from the midfield up top.

He was no star, but definitely someone who could get/keep possession and create possibilities for Angel. The Red Bulls just looked lost up top and it could be a long year, if they don't fix it & add some creativity.

On another note, I still like the young keeper for NY. He's going to take his lumps but the best way for him to get better is out there playing and I'm betting he becomes a solid keeper.

All in all, an exciting game. Also, I'm not surprised to see people starting to " support " Seattle, from other cities and potentially other countries. It's hard not to root for them and get intoxicated by the passion and direction, that club is going.

In the end, **** em if they're playing Chicago but I'd like to see them do good this year, too. Unlike, TFC (who I can't stand), I'm all for Seattle's fans being rewarded with success.

Regarding Montero: Good investment for the league, though, and the Sounders. I don't think it's a mistake that he could have played at a higher level, yet choose to come play in this country. Despite our economy and what Euro-snobs would like to believe, people still crave to come to this country. Certainly a trend that could continue & only benefits this league (something I've said would happen overtime, previously)...

Which brings up a related note, regarding talent & players coming to the MLS. Will Garber and the rest of the clubs finally wake up and see the impact this kid has already made on the club and the city? Shockingly, he isn't 33 years old or house-hold name, yet, could prove to help the league in more ways than the dude that's last name is Beckham has 2 or 3 years combined.

Fredy is a good model for what the league should be doing. Discovering, developing talent from within and around the world. Not signing name-value, has-beens. If the league wants to succeed, gain respect and grow at a pace that gets our youth interested....it has the blueprint now. Get on it, MLS!

Totally agree with you there, we really missed Dave last night, Rojas still doesn't seem to be comfortable in the MLS, and the fact that he was playing right in front of the centerbacks instead of right behind the strikers annoys me.

I believe in Cepero, still young, still raw, some people at the bar were getting agitated after the second goal but seemed to forget some facts: - He saved potentional goals by coming of his line brilliantly, The defense did'nt help him at all, and this is the same man that played brilliantly during our playoff run.

I hope this whole Beckham fiasco has tought the leauge that, we do have somewhat of an advantage by being on the same side of the world as South America, although scouts from Europe will be able to lure young talent from SA to their leauge, we should also try to find those diamonds in the rough, and those who sleeps through the cracks, like Freddy.

Sorry dena. To make you feel better, know that I would have done it either way.

What do you think though? Should we make another thread strictly for MLS highlights? A video thread I mean.

Stadium looks nice, does the MLS have a certain number of expansion teams they want to cap themselves at?

I think that'd be cool, it'll give others memers of the forum a chance to see what the MLS and the players are really like on the pitch, might slow down the harsh bias agaisnt the leauge, and spark some intrest in players. I say go for it.

It's a football stadium normally, but Seattle did a great job of making it fit for soccer, I thought they would've opened more seats for the opener.

There's no real cap but I think the leauge will stop at 20 and then let the clubs grow for a few years, realistically with the size of this country we could get about 30 teams.

Hard to tell. We look like we are going to have 20 by 2012, but I hope it stops around there, as long as there is only one league.

But MLS never tells us nothing, so its impossible to know when they want to stop, unfortunately.

whoa 30 clubs in 1 league? That's quite a stretch would need 2 tiers?

Brings me to another point, i'm reading over Seattle's wiki page right now and it used to play in the USL? To get a franchise license or w/e in the MLS i assume it would be easier to obtain if you were an already existing club playing in the USL or w/e rather than building one from scratch, so with that in mind why doesn't the MLS turn the USL into it's second tier? on another forum i use called bigsoccer, the USL section is pretty popular so i suppose it's got enough or close to enough fans to support a completely professional team?

Well, and the USL thing will be used in the two newest teams, Vancouver and Portland, both who play in the USL currently.

But, the reason why MLS is reluctant in all cases, is because here in America, we only like to use the largest tv markets for our teams. And the MLS goes along in that theory with all the other sports here. Because teams like Rochester and Carolina have great fan bases. But they are relatively small towns, so the MLS will never (99% sure) go there. Which is unfortunate, because those places could pull in more fans.

And yeah, for me, if we go to 30+ teams, we need to break it down to more than just one league (different than the current conferences though).

We have Franchises not local clubs here with American Sports fans who wouldn't be able to comprehend or handle the idea of not being the best of the best of the best.

I can bet that every MLS/ULS1 & 2 fans would completely understand a pro/rel system but ESPN would **** bricks if they had to play a RedBalls relegated to ULS 2 game.

Teams front $40/50 mil to be an expansion. That all goes down the drain the first year they get relegated.

That's the same problem with the A-League...only on a much smaller scale

The clubs, and FOX who owns the rights don't want to pay money for a second tier that
a) No one will watch
b) will just lose money
It's still a pipe dream with the non-bandwagoner australian footy fan that there will be pro/rel in Australia(and i assume more hardened American soccer fans will feel the same)...infact, even AFC is pushing the A-League to do implement pro/rel, but the FFA are too fearful that it will be fruitless and a waste of money.(even though they say they are aiming for it, all the signs point to they aren't)

True, Red Bull did not play to their full potential. But there is still no doubt that the Sounders looked great last night! You can't deny that!

Yeah, and NY was missing some starters too (3-4 I think). They will be fine this year I think.

If, Fredy gets continuous service from the players around him -- Nyassi, Le Toux, Ljungberg, Jaqua, and Zakuani -- I think he will notch 20 goals this season.

That's a solid list. Although, without being biast I think Montero might come in second simply because I think he is surrounded with better players, especially once Ljungberg gets back. He will just have more opportunities to score I believe.

I also think that Chris Rolfe from the Fire could have a break out year and score quite a few.
