It's a stupid move that would change the team's formation, and would force Gerrard to play back in a much more defensive position.

Its very likely though that Xabi Alonso will be moving, and adding David Silva would be a significant purchase even if he's not a direct replacement.

And im sure he could fit in.

Reina
Johnson---Agger---Carragher---Auerillo
Riera---Masherano---Gerrard---David Silva
Kuyt---Torres

And I'm sure Babel can rotate in with Silva or Benayoun sometimes, too.

RAFA: XABI SHOULD STAY AT LIVERPOOL
Paul Eaton in Singapore 25 July 2009
Rafa Benitez today revealed he has told Xabi Alonso that he should stay at Liverpool.
Alonso received a rapturous ovation from the Singapore fans as he watched the Reds train on Friday night.

"I was talking to him yesterday and telling him to listen to the fans. They love Xabi," Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"I said to him, 'Maybe you have to stay.'

"You can see he is a really good player and I'll be really pleased if he stays. All the players and his teammates want him to stay. If we keep Xabi I will be very pleased."

RAFA: XABI SHOULD STAY AT LIVERPOOL

Read into that what you will. Hopefully he listens.

Johnson------Carra----Skrtl/Agger-----Insua/Aurelio

Kuyt--------Gerrard---Mascherano--------Riera

----------------------Silva-------------------

---------------------Torres------------------

I can't recall seeing it, but it's simple. If you took the time to think about it instead of acting like a grade A lalalala, you'd see.

The two attacking midfielders role is simple, support the striker and get into the box, provide for the widemen. The two wingers, go down the wings. If one of the attacking midefilers goes wide, then the winger will play the support role you'll normally see a fullback do, by either coming for the ball or overlapping. Thus, handing the fullbacks more of a defensive role.

I think Barcelona may have played this kind of formation when Ronaldinho was with them. Like,

Eto'o
Ronaldinho Messi
LM.... Xavi Iniesta
Abidal Marquez Puyol RB

I'm not 100% sure. But teams use it.

its just not plausible, there is a reason it hasnt been used.

you would have huge gaps all over the field

btw why did you say "You sir, are an idiot." when you just admitted you havent seen a team use it aswell my original post:

no, barca use a traditional 4-5-1/4-3-3/4-3-2-1. they had Deco remember

Eto'o
Ronaldinho Messi
Deco Xavi Iniesta
Abidal Marquez Puyol RB

the 3 in the middle will/should always be midfielders

You just proved the "idiot" comment right.

I was not speaking of it not being seen and I never said you were wrong. I was speaking of your comment in general.

As for holes all over the pitch, not really. The back four can keep their shape. Mascherano infront cleaning lalalala up, if needed, Gerrard can drop back. And so on and so forth.
