I would really love to see Mata at Liverpool. I've heard lots of good things about him.

I'm all for Rafa signing forign talent but do we really need this many? We seem to sign a youth player every other day.

Hopefully we don't sell any of more of the English lads because we could be potentialy shooting ourselfs in the foot if this six plus five rule come into affect in the near future.

There will be a lot of the reserves leaving this summer, so they need to be replaced.. About half the reserves will be English.. Or should be at least..

Liverpool beat Arsenal to sign 18-year-old France starlet Chris Mavinga from Paris St GermainBy SPORTSMAIL REPORTERLast updated at 12:32 PM on 07th July 2009

Liverpool have reportedly signed promising France Under 18 international Chris Mavinga.
The defender, who had also been watched by Arsenal scout Gilles Grimandi, moved to Anfield from Paris Saint-Germain on a three-year deal, according to France Football.
The 18-year-old follows in the footsteps of striker David Ngog, who joined Liverpool from PSG for £1.5million last summer.
He can play at centre-back or full-back and is seen as one of the country's brightest prospects.

According to SkySports, Rafa wants to sign the 16-year old starlet, Luis Alberto. He has yet to sign proffesional terms with Sevilla.

Benitez could look to add to his youth options as he continues to track Sevilla starlet Luis Alberto.

Sevilla are eager to retain the highly-rated 16-year-old winger, but he has yet to sign professional terms and is said to open to a move to Anfield.

Sevilla sporting director Ramon Rodriquez Monchi said: "We are looking to offer Luis Alberto an attractive deal to ensure he remains at the club."

Rafa considering winger’s prospects

Liverpool will watch how winger Adam Hammill gets on in pre-season training before making a decision on whether his future lies at Anfield.

Barnsley are waiting in the wings to sign the 21-year-old after he impressed during a loan spell at Oakwell last season, but revealed today they are waiting on Benitez to make a decision on the youngster.

Barnsley manager Simon Davey told the BBC, “I’ve made an offer, but they want to look at him during pre-season.

“We know we can wait on Adam because he’s not going to kill the budget if he signs two days before the season.”

“We are getting our ducks in a row just case the answer is a negative one.”

Rafa Benitez launches Kop Idol-style talent search - Liverpool FC latest

RAFA Benitez has launched a “Kop Idol” style search for new talent for Liverpool’s first team.

The Reds boss has called up half a dozen of Liverpool’s most promising youngsters to train with the first team squad – and challenged them to prove they are good enough to stay there.

Benitez is keen to see how much progress has been made by some of the Reds reserves during the last 12 months and is pitching them in with the senior stars in the early stages of Liverpool’s pre-season training.

Spanish trio Dani Pacheco, Mikel San Jose and Danny Ayala, Hungarians Krisztian Nemeth and Peter Gulacsi and locally produced central defender Martin Kelly are all being given a chance to stake their claim to stay with the big boys.

All six are rubbing shoulders with first team regulars including Jamie Carragher, Dirk Kuyt, Yossi Benayoun and Martin Skrtel as the Liverpool manager puts his players through their paces.

With fellow reserve regulars Jay Spearing and Stephen Darby already established in the first team set up, Benitez is keen to give some of the younger members of his squad the chance to shine ahead of the coming campaign.

He said: “We have already had conversations with the likes of Pacheco, Ayala and San Jose and we have told them that it depends on them.

“They are now training with the first team squad and this is their chance to show what they can do ahead of the new season.”

Meanwhile, Yossi Benayoun has told of his delight after committing his future to Liverpool until 2013.

As revealed in yesterday’s ECHO, the Israeli international has become the latest Reds star to agree terms on a new contract, following on from Steven Gerrard, Dirk Kuyt, Fernando Torres and Daniel Agger who have all secured improved deals.

Benayoun has wasted no time in putting pen to paper on his two year contract extension, describing it as “a dream come true”.

“I am very happy that we have reached an agreement,” said the 29-year-old.

“Of course, to be at a club like this is a dream come true and I want to keep playing here.

“Hopefully now I can concentrate on the hard work that needs to be done and try to play better and better and win some silverware.”

Benitez was equally pleased to have tied down yet another of his stars to a long term deal and praised Benayoun’s increased influence on his Liverpool side over the last 12 months.

“You know that our idea was to extend the contracts of some players and Yossi was one of those players,” said the Liverpool manager.

“He has been really good for us over the last year, scoring crucial goals and getting assists, so we wanted to keep him and I'm really pleased with the extension.”

I think dossena is definatly on the way out. If you go on 1st team squad profiles on liverpoolfc.tv then glen johnson has been given the number 2 shirt and dossena no longer has a number. Who would replace him? Insua? Aurelio?..

dossena doesnt need replacing anyway. Insua and aurelio where 2nd and 1st choices at the end of the season. Then we have a hugely talented german LB in buchtman in the reserves, very strong tackler and can cross like beckham so if we do have injuries he might get thrown in at the deep end.

The thing that annoys me is that we have very talented youngsters but they never get their chance to prove themselves regularly enough. Look at man utd, arsenal, they develop their youth into very good players. I have even seen a glimpse of krisztian nemeth in the first team yet. I cant wait to see him and torres or paheco together in the frst team.

nemeth has to start scoring again though because he was horribley out of form last season. Hes at risk of being overtaken by saric as well; who is very similar to ibra.
Most likely to get a look in this up comming season is san jose and pacheco.

Nah, San Jose isn't ready.. Kelly is the defender to put into the first team, he's the better player..

As for Nemeth, he wasn't horribly out of form last season, he was injured for most of it.. Not really fair on him tbh.. He would have played for the first team if he hadn't been out injured.. Rafa even said he would be an option to use when Keane left, then he suffered injuries again..
