After his surprise move to Manchester United, striker Michael Owen has told his new club's TV channel that he is eager to get his career back on track - and help the Red Devils win more trophies.

The player who made his name at United's arch-rivals Liverpool - and then went to Real Madrid, a club whose relations with the Old Trafford outfit have not always been harmonious - hopes his latest transfer will give him the opportunity to prove that he still has plenty to offer.

Owen told MUTV of his shock at signing for Manchester United, and admitted that he didn’t enjoy the greatest of times at Newcastle United, but is optimistic that things are suddenly looking up again.

“It feels great," he said. "I never even had it in my wildest dreams really but then I got the call from the manager to come and meet him.

“It was a shock but I’m obviously really happy and things have moved quickly since then.

"I probably had a poor spell up at Newcastle but prior to that, my career was very good and I’m sure a top club like this can reignite my career.

"Hopefully I can score a few goals and help the team to more success. It’s early days but when you think about United, you automatically think about winning trophies, the stadium, the massive fanbase.”

IMO you lot should grow up, he supported Everton as a child, went to Liverpool because he knew his potential would blossom there, now he wants to win the Premier League.

Even though if he'd stayed he'd have won the CL.

What a scumbag, he obviously doesn't have a single ounce of Liverpool in his heart. Hope he has fun sitting on the bench.

I was ok with him joining Real after a while. But I've lost any respect that I had for him now

Can't wait until he comes back to Anfield and the stick he will get.

That picture really lalalalaes me off.

Owen used to be my favorite player from 98 on and now seeing him with that ear to ear grin on his face holding the scum banner high.

What a lalalalaing knunt, I feel betrayed.

Owen's a right lalalalala for going to Manchester United. Of all the clubs in the world he goes there. To be honest I wish he had signed him. It's too bad Tevez has respect for his former club or we'd snap him up.
