LOL youve just practically stated it yourself, why does he play everygame? Because he's our best CB.

Or he could play every game because he's the leader of the defense.

That's why he still plays when Agger and Skrtel do.

I get a bit worried when the English compliment me.

Usually it's males.

BENITEZ EYES 'ONE OR TWO' ADDITIONS
Jimmy Rice 09 June 2009 Rafa Benitez insists Liverpool are ready to secure the 'one or two' top signings required to overhaul Barclays Premier League winners Manchester United. The Reds boss is delighted with his current squad having overseen our best title challenge since 1990.

Benitez believes a few select improvements could be enough to transform Liverpool from runners-up to champions.

"I think we have enough money to add the one or two players that we need," he said.

"I'm very happy with the squad we've got. This season has been really good and we've competed on all fronts. If we can sign one or two players then I'm really positive that we can improve.

"I won't talk about any figures and I can't say how much we have."

Benitez's confidence in his current crop stems from a record-breaking campaign in which the Reds took Alex Ferguson's men all the way.

"I'm also positive because we were talking recently about how Fernando Torres and Steven Gerrard didn't play together for a long time this season," he said. "Hopefully they will play together more next season.

"We've also got good young players like David Ngog, Nabil El Zhar, Ryan Babel and Emiliano Insua, who was playing really well, coming through.

"We have a very good squad but we can still improve a little bit.

Rafa on the cityWhen I decided to sign a new contract I did it because Liverpool Football Club is more than a club. It is the heart of the city. It is our life and for the people here it means so much. I thought I had to sign. We have to fight. We have to do it.
"How much can we improve? Enough to win the title? I'm sure it will be enough to compete. Like this year, we will try to compete on all fronts until the end."

Benitez's focus in recent months has been on ensuring the club keeps hold of its star names.

Daniel Agger, Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Dirk Kuyt have all followed their manager's lead by agreeing new deals.

"Some clubs were asking for our players so the priority was to extend the contracts of our key players," he said. "Those players who are the spine of the team.

"We spent some money to guarantee this and now we just have to improve a little bit because we are in a very good position."

Benitez, who signed a new five-year contract back in March, celebrates five years as Liverpool manager next week.

And his appetite for the job remains as healthy as ever.

He added: "When I decided to sign a new contract I did it because Liverpool Football Club is more than a club.

"It is the heart of the city. It is our life and for the people here it means so much. I thought I had to sign. We have to fight, we have to do it.

"Every single year, every single week and every single day when you talk with a fan he is supporting you and supporting the team.

"You can see the passion and it makes a massive difference.

"Our fans are amazing and when I talk with people in Spain they all say the same. We will see it again when we go to Asia in pre-season.

"I receive a lot of letters from people talking about the club. And as I said before this is more than a club."
Excellent news. There have been rumours of us having 30m left over from the 350m loan. I would be happy with that including whatever we get from sales.

Rafa will have a word. Rafa can deal with him, he saved him from West Ham and got him under control at the Mancs.

MASCHERANO REJECTS BARCA RUMOURS

Liverpool midfielder Javier Mascherano insists he is not about to join Barcelona.

The Argentina international has become a vital part of manager Rafa Benitez's plans since joining the Anfield outfit on a five-year contract in 2007.

That form is reported to have caught the eye of Barca, but Mascherano is unaware of any interest from the Champions League winners.

The 24-year-old angered Benitez at the start of May after confessing he was unsure over his long-term future, but he now has no doubts.

"I still have three years on my contract with Liverpool and I am happy there," he told TyC Sports.

"I am comfortable and thinking only of Liverpool. I don't know anything about an approach from Barcelona or any other club."

That was about 2 weeks ago. Maybe it was just a rumour back then but now Barca have contacted his agent.

This is today.

MASCH WOULD LEAVE FOR BARCA - AGENT

Posted 09/06/09 10:07

Javier Mascherano's agent has made it clear that the Argentine midfielder would jump at the chance to join Barcelona.

Mascherano has been linked with a move to the European champions, and agent Walter Tamer claims his client would be very keen.

"If a club like Barcelona want to bring you into their ranks after having completed such a brilliant season and having won everything, obviously as a player, you are going to say, 'Yes, I want to play there,'" he told RAC-1 programme 'Tu Diras'.

"It is an honour for Javier that a club like Barca pay such close attention to him, especially after the incredible season they had. I believe that a transfer would be feasible. If Barca really want him, he will sign for them.

"He would have a very easy job at Barca. Sometimes we talk and joke that the only thing he has to do is run, rob the ball, and pass it on to all the superstars in front of him."

But Tamer does admit that the move could be made more difficult if Liverpool agree to sell Xabi Alonso to Real Madrid.

"What if Xabi Alonso also leaves? Surely, Rafael Benitez would not want to have both his central midfielders go. It will be difficult, although Xabi's future does not depend on Mascherano and vice-versa.

"The transaction would certainly happen, but the first to leave will have more options."

Yes but the key word being agent.

Agger's agent was the same with talking up deals. His agent will want a new contract for him with Torres, Agger and Kuyt getting extensions.

Agents are lalalalala, Masch has stated before that he wants to stay.
