To be honest I don't read any newspapers at all these days. And the BBC usually only mention something if it's actually happening. Unlike a certain Goal.com I know :P

Liverpool will attempt a shock move to re-sign striker Peter Crouch from Portsmouth.

Despite severe financial restrictions in place at Anfield, manager Rafa Benitez will attempt to try to land Crouch for as little as £4million.

The Anfield club are not alone in wanting Crouch.

Five other clubs - Blackburn, Sunderland, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham - have declared their interest in the lanky striker.

But Liverpool have a distinct advantage because Pompey still owe them half of the original £8m transfer fee, which is due to be paid over the next 18 months.

The deal to take Crouch to Fratton Park was spread over the two-and-half years of a four-year contract.

That's why, when Pompey were attempting to deal with a financial crisis a few weeks ago, Liverpool thought they could make a bargain signing.

However, Portsmouth's new wealth under their prospective owner Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim appears to ensure that there is no immediate requirement to sell Crouch.

And even if Pompey decided to cash in on him, they are likely to favour a deal with another club who are prepared to make a far bigger cash offer than Liverpool.

Crouch rejected three offers to stay at Liverpool prior to his £8m move to the south coast last summer and Pompey have now slapped a £10m premium on his head, valuing him at about £18m.

The marksman became increasingly frustrated sitting on the Anfield bench and demanded regular first-team football.

Harry Redknapp, the Portsmouth manager at the time, guaranteed Crouch a place in the side in a dream partnership alongside fellow England international Jermain Defoe.

Defoe has subsequently followed Redknapp to Tottenham - and if he can raise funds by selling fringe players, the Spurs boss would like to work with Crouch again.

Charlton have won the race to sign Miguel Llera.

The 29-year-old defender (below) has signed up on a two-year deal after turning down a new contract at MK Dons.

Norwich were also chasing the Spaniard, who had an excellent season as the Dons reached the League Two play-offs.

Manager Tony Mowbray wants £2mrated Espanyol midfielder Jordi Gomez to lead West Brom's bid for an immediate return to the Premier League.

The 24-year-old caught the eye in the Championship last season during a 12-month loan at Swansea City, where he hit 14 goals.

Would be welcome back with open arms imo.

Won't happen.

Both sides are not interested, its the council who are constantly trying to bring this up. Makes me laugh that they have rehashed it the light of the news from last week.

He used our name to try and get a new contract. Said he would join us if we treble his wages.

He then said that he would snub us if the right offer came in.

Now he's saying he would consider us again.

I want players that want to be part of our club. Not just consider us if they can't get what they want at their club. lalalala him.

I'm not sure, it think some people read it wrong and are thinking its his fault when it's agent comign out and saying these things. I'd be delighted if we signed him though personally.

Sorry but thats wrong. Like is adi above, it's his agent. Lavezzi has never come out and said we have to treble his wages etc.

It's his personal agent, they work together and decided that if Liverpool would offer that then maybe Napoli would, he's used our name. The fact of the matter is even if he didn't say that he's made it very clear that Liverpool will only be second choice to him. I don't want players like that.

Lavezzi prepared to snub Liverpool - Premier League, Football - The Independent

Even if players don't mean it, it's nice if they just say "I've admired Liverpool for a long time and if my future is there then I will be happy." or something along those lines. He couldn't even give us a second thought.

We'll agree to disagree. I don't for one second think he's saying that at all.

I will just leave my hopes that we sign him and leave this thread

Ok i;'m back.

What do we think on the defensive situation with Hyypia gone. Will Rafa actually overcome his fears and promote a youth player?

I can't see why not. We're not in dire need of CBs providing Carra, Agger, and Skrtel don't get any serious injuries. San Jose has looked like he could be very capable of being a squad player.

Yeah or someone like Kelly. Looked decent when he came on in that Champions League.

Exactly. Rafa has been doing some serious changes with the youth set-up and I think in a few years we could see more and more players breaking into the first team.

Anyone had a tour of Anfield?

My cousin came down to visit over the weekend so we took him on a tour of Anfield. There wasn't any games on so i thought this would be the next best thing as i have never had a tour of the ground meself.

Anyway to cut a long story short i was quite surprised at how good the tour was and didn't realise that we haven't won the league since knocking the bootroom down in 1991 And at the start of the season Rafa had a changing room built for him which he had decided to call the new bootroom and as a result we came close to winning the league last season

Was well impressed with the tour, apart from the bird who was trying to act witty and thought she knew more than everyone there despite looking no older than 22

Only thing is he seems to have an obsession of bringing random players in. We would have seen alot more of Insua if Dossena wasn't brought in although alot of people are being too harsh on Andrea

he has hardly said anything, its all his agent. he has stayed loyal to napoli though, and as he said there he wanted to stay at napoli until recent developments, despite their massive shortfall in league position.

i also get sick of players claiming their liverpool fans, alot of our unsuccessful signings have been like that (keane, bellamy), and some of our better signings never came out with it when they signed (agger, alonso, garcia, mascher). the fact is, the lads from argentina so he definitely did not grow up a liverpool fan.

If he didn't want his agent to say it he wouldn't have. At the end of the day the agents work for the players. He has told his agent he wants more wages and his agent has brought our name up. When asked about it he said he wasn't interested in us, that much is true(look at the Independent article above).

I'm not saying I want the players to say they've supported us, I just want to hear them say they know of our history and are happy/flattered to be linked with our club. I don't want the reason for him to join us being that he had a fall out with his club over wages and we were the next best thing.

if your a footballer for a club you never supported and you told your agent you wanted more wages you dont want him to come out and say it in public. i think i remember gerrards agent saying something about rafa which i cant remember.

what you need to remember is that agents are ****s, and if the player gets higher wages they will also.

Disregarding what his agent said, Lavezzi still said

Liverpool's offer?, I want to stay at Napoli.
He didn't even comment on us which shows he isn't interested. Maybe I'm being harsh because that's what I'd want our players to say. But you still have to question his ambition if he'd rather treble his wages and stay at a club not playing in Europe rather than playing for a club that regurlaly challenges for the Champions League.

Sky Sport 24 reported the strong position taken by Rafa Benitez, Liverpool engineer, who sent a letter in the editorial offices of Sky and Gazzetta dello Sport: "We have never contacted Lavezzi and we have no intention of doing so. We have never presented any offer. We want to put a stop to these items. "
It is concluded in this way, in all likelihood, the real sceneggiata group that takes care of the interests of Lavezzi who wanted to put in place an interest in art of Liverpool (which there has never been) and that the manager the club wanted to deny to safeguard its position (the rules prohibit a player to deal with without notifying the company of belonging) and any future dealings with Napoli.
