what hes saying is what if we sign Villa and he gets struck with injury

anyways signing a player like Villa just so he can be back up to Torres is a stupid idea, it needs to be a decent player that won't mind being on the bench, messing up the Torres and Gerrard partnership would be stupid

You don't understand. I mean what's the point in getting a back-up striker for Torres who can't even take up Torres' position as a lone striker? We need to get someone who can play up top on their own or just stick with what we've got(Kuyt, Babel, N'Gog, Nemeth)

Lucio on a free transfer, anybody? We could get a season or two of good experience and teaching which will help develop Agger and Skrtel.

With not knowing what form Carra is in and Skrtel and Agger's health/form, he could be used a lot.

Tuncay was pretty good at Boro. He never really played as a striker though as I swear he used to drop back and defend more then the midfielders.

Luis Fabiano linked with move to Liverpool FC

Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano could be on his way to the Premier League with the Brazil international claiming negotiations with an English club are at an “advanced” stage.
Although he did not name which club he is in talks with, Spanish media have been reporting that Manchester City, Liverpool and Everton are among those interested in signing the in-form hitman.
Luis Fabiano, who is the joint-leading goalscorer in La Liga this season with 13, reportedly told the Brazilian media that the possibility of moving to England was a “great opportunity” for him.
“It is very difficult for me to remain in Sevilla. The negotiations for me to go to England are very advanced. It is my great opportunity,” said the 27-year-old, who joined Sevilla from Porto in 2005.
“I am very happy at Sevilla and in Seville, who are a club and a city which I like very much. But it is my great opportunity and I will do what I think is most appropriate for me.”

Fabiano...

That'd be a great signing.

That's the only issue. But any striker that does sign for us would have to realise they'll be playing second fiddle to Torres

I disagree. We just need someone who can do the job, and Fabiano (if he can find form) would do that, plus more. Brazilian strikers have done quite well over the last season or two aswell.. Jo at Everton, Robinho at Man City.

Its from the mirror mate, so I would take it with a pinch of salt.

Liverpool bid for Sylvain Distin to replace Sami Hyypia

Liverpool have offered £2million to Portsmouth for Sylvain Distin in an attempt to replace Sami Hyypia, who has left for Bayer Leverkusen after ten years at the club. The 31-year-old defender has one year left on his contract at Fratton Park, after joining from Manchester City two years ago.

Did well at Man City and Newcastle, haven't seen much of him at Portsmouth but I'm sure he would make a good back up for Agger,Skrtel and Carra. Wether he would want to do that at his age i don't know.

He won't. I can see Agger being first choice CB next season alongside Carra or Skrtel.

Distin would be a fairly good player to have, experienced, but he's not brilliant.. Would have preferred to see Martin Kelly get a chance..

I wouldn't mind him, he's a good player, and he'd be a good back-up.. Would we have to pay for him though?..

Is he out of contract with Boro?

Not sure, if he is, we might as well give him a shot, but if we're looking at free players, I'd prefer Owen.. If he isn't, I'd rather we look elsewhere, unless he's cheap, but I can't see that happening..

How can they consider Tuncay as a flop?
He was defnetly one of the best players for Boro this season
along with Downing...I think he wud be good for us.
And now regarding the Silva rumor meeting up with Rafa is defnetly great news...Hopefully he does the same Torres did

Liverpool interested in Middlesbrough flop Tuncay

Boro flop Tuncay has revealed he could be thrown a Premier League lifeline by Liverpool.

Boss Rafa Benitez ran the rule over the Turkey international in the final weeks of the season, and despite Teeside club's misery of relegation, he liked what he saw.

Middlesbrough struggled because of a lack of goals, but Benitez is looking for a striker who is happy to fill as a support striker to the free-scoring Fernando Torres, and be prepared to act as back up from the bench.

Tuncay fits the bill, with his selfless running and great industry in creating chances for others, and he explained yesterday that he was aware of interest from Anfield.

"Yes, I've heard something about that, but nothing official has arrived to me. Of course I would like to play for a big club," he said.

With Boro desperate to restructure their finances after dropping into the Championship, they would accept a reasonable offer for the Turk.

Benitez has been looking for fourth striker who won't break the bank, following the sale of Robbie Keane, to allow him to concentrate his summer transfer funds on other key areas in his squad.

It emerged last night that the Liverpool boss is pursuing Spain international winger david Silva with some vigour, and met with him in their native country earlier this week.

Silva told his fellow Spaniard that he would love to play in the Premier League, but there is still the stumbling block of the fee his club Valencia are demanding.

Benitez would pay around £17million for the 23 year old, but if his heavily indebted Spanish side try to spark an auction with the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, then he will pull out of the bidding.

The Anfield manager showed that he is not prepared to get into a bidding war this week, when he swiftly pulled the plug on a deal to sign Gareth Barry.

The Mirror can reveal that Liverpool did make a last gasp bid to snatch the Villa midfielder from Manchester City's clutches late on Tuesday night, but were ultimately put off by the player's wages.

Benitez spoke to Barry to try to persuade him to choose Anfield, but when he learnt the England man was being offered £90,000 a week by City, he reluctantly pulled out of the running.

---------------------

Looks like he is being bought to sit on the bench and fill in for Torres. I can think of much better back-up strikers. Owen, maybe even Viduka???

The only thing that Rafa likes is his work rate, just like Kuyt.
