Yep totally agree. On the bright side after Hyypia left Rafa said it could be a chance for one of the youngsters to step up so hopefully it could be the case with promoting a striker too. N'Gog is already there but if Babel leaves we don't have much options up there.

I'm like 90% sure Babel will be playing elsewhere next season. Can't see why Rafa wants to sell him other than the money for more transfers. Hope he, and Xabi for that matter, stay put and the yanks part with the cash for new players, instead of us selling off our best player from last season (imo) Alonso and a very promising young striker in Babel.

Oh and great news about Barry signing for City. That'll surely put Xabi a step closer to staying.

Bold: Totally agree again Babel said he would like to stay but since Riera came in he hasn't got anywhere to play. Personally i would have loved him or Pennant on the right. Kuyt has been great for us but i feel we need a real winger.

ON Alonso i do hope he stays. If he left i would have liked Barry to replace him though.

Agree with you on the Barry replacing him if he left. What I meant was that now he has signed for City, there's less chance of Alonso being sold as Rafa was very keen on Barry.

This isn't a thread about me mate...

Lets just say Xabi did leave this summer, who would we get to replace him seeing as Barry is now at Man City?

Madrid looks his likely destination if anywhere so i think we should look for a swap involving a player who could take his role and play alognside Masch. Possibly Gago? Both Argentinian aswell which could help.Of course we'd want cash too.

I was checking out the Arsenal thread earlier and they were saying that Lucio will be available on a free transfer.

With Sami leaving, couldn't we use him for a season or two? Rotate him, Carra, Skrtel, and Daniel.

Gareth Barry has complered his surprise move from Aston Villa to Manchester City for a fee of £12m.

NealSimpson/Empics
Barry: Joining Robinho at Eastlands

The 28-year-old England international was heavily linked with a move to Premier League rivals Liverpool last summer but the Reds were unwilling to meet Villa's asking price of £18m.
He has signed a five-year contract at Eastlands after 12 years and more than 400 games for Villa.
It is thought Barry will be paid £80,000-a-week at City.
City manager Mark Hughes is banking on Barry's experience in the domestic and international arena to take the club to the next level.
Hughes said: "Gareth is widely acknowledged as one of the top midfielders in the Premier League and that is a recommendation in itself.
"When players of his quality become available then you have to be in the market for them so we are absolutely delighted that we have been able to conclude this deal.
"The experience required to compete with the best in the Premier League is vital. With Gareth we get the experience of someone who has played week-in, week-out in the hardest league in the world.
"He plays at a level that has an impact on the game and we are thrilled that he is joining us.''
Hughes is keen to complete some more early summer transfer business. He said: "I was looking to get a number of deals done as soon as possible and we have had a great start with Gareth joining us.
"I hope we can conclude some more so that when we come back for pre-season training we have everybody fit and well and set for a successful campaign.''
Club captain Richard Dunne, currently on Republic of Ireland duty, welcomed Barry on board.
"He is a really good player and a player the Aston Villa fans will really miss, '' said the defender.
"It shows the pulling power of the club. It's the sort of signing the manager is looking for - players with Premier League experience who can push the squad on.''
Barry has proved to be adaptable over the years and that is a trait that Hughes believes will serve City well.
"I like players that have the sort of flexibility that enables you to change your tactics if you need during a game, and Gareth has that,'' he told the club's official website.
"He also has a range of passing that I am keen to introduce to the team, and he has got great delivery at set-plays as well. He will bring a lot to City.
"I have spoken to him briefly, and I will do at greater length soon. It is clear to everybody that being at City is going to be exciting in the future, and Gareth sees that.''
Barry, currently with the England squad preparing for a World Cup qualifier in Kazakhstan on Saturday, said: "I'm delighted to be joining City.
"It didn't take much persuasion from Mark Hughes, they are heading in the direction I want to go.
"There is great potential here, and I'm sure there will be a few more additions to the squad this summer.''
Barry had been offered a lucrative new deal to keep him at Villa Park while manager Martin O'Neill and Villa owner Randy Learner had both said they would be willing to run down the 28-year-old's existing contract if it meant keeping him for another season.
Barry has previously expressed his desire to join a club in the Champions League but City finished six places and 22 points behind this season's top four, all of whom qualified for Europe's top club competition.
City did not even qualify for next season's revamped Europa League with Everton, Villa and Fulham claiming the three places for English clubs.

Woops, just noticed 6 page thread about it. Oh well, I'm happy he didn't join us, selling Xabi and getting him would be a step down in my opinion.

1) Was Smicer's goal tipped by the guy who tried to dodge it? Probly Baros, right?

2) Who was the guy in on goal when they gave up the PK? Did they get a red for that?

3) Has Crespo basically been on every team in the world?

I'm 99.9% sure Xabi will still be playing for us next season. And I doubt we would Gago, he's to simlar to Masc and would offer no attacking threat at all.

Read some where yesterday that Real will offer 25 million plus Negredo, they sound desperate to me, hopefully Rafa doesn't fall for this deal either.

How?.. They don't even have Negredo.. He's at Almeria, and they would have to buy him back, and then offer him to us..

Madrid can lalalala off if they think they'll be getting him.. £50m plus Sergio Ramos, Robben Diarra and Higuain please..

Ryan Babel is class, I wouldn't mind him at United, him and Torres are the only Liverpool players I would accept at United, maybe Alonso too, Obviously Gerrard is quality but I hate the lalalala.

I think they own part of his contract, like they did with Eto. Don't understand all that lalalalalalalala that goes on over there with teams owning players contracts.

Liverpool Star Steven Gerrard Fears Ancelotti At Chelsea

The Reds skipper thinks that the Italian's entrance to the Premier League will be good for entertainment, but not so good for his team's prospects of success...

2 Jun 2009 16:43:20

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is concerned that Carlo Ancelotti's appointment as Chelsea manager will make the Merseysiders' attempt to end what will be their 20-year title drought next season much more difficult, although he concedes it will make the competition even more appealing for fans of the two clubs.

"I think it's a good appointment for Chelsea, I'm not so sure its a good one for Liverpool though, we will have to England's training camp, where they are preparing for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan and Andorra. "He is a fantastic manager, one of the best in the world.
"We played two Champions League finals against him when he was at AC Milan, won one on a fantastic night in Istanbul, but the second time around they beat us and he was spot-on tactically in the second game."
The attacker also felt that his club boss Rafa Benitez would rise to the new challenge posed by the Italian at Stamford Bridge.

"They are both fantastic managers and it will make the Premiership even more exciting," Gerrard added.

"These managers love going head to head against each other, to test each other, so I am sure Rafa and Ancelotti are looking forward to testing themselves again."

They don't own him. They hold a buyback clause only.

What did he do? Beat an average Livercrap side, who, by some miracle, made it to the final?
