That's why they scored 3 of the 4 goals today.

I watched the game. Spearing looked very solid. Winning tackles, Lucas looked good too.

The whole team looked good really.

Great night last, never in my wildest dreams did i expect that score.

We shocked Madrid who probably thought we were going to sit back and defend, they just didn't look up for it after the 2nd goal went in.

Was the jay spearing chant on TV last night? haven't had a chance to see the coverage because i didn't get home until 1am because i had a few beves with the lads after the game and am a bit worst for where this morning as a result.

I must admit that I will (for probably the first time in my life) be supporting Liverpool this weekend against Utd.... Only because if it's a draw or loss to Liverpool, the season is practically over in the title race (although it kind of is already)

Yeah heard it clearly. Got a massive cheer when he came on too. Probably shocked that Rafa actually played a young Scouser for a change

Thought i'd post my thoughts in the Pool vs Madrid thread here too cos' i can tbe rsed type much else
Was a fantastic performance last night. By far the better team and dserved to go through and the result could have been even more embarrassing for Madrid. The amount of people on here saying we'll play defensively and wil llose have yet again been proven wrong. Everyone played their part although hats off to Casillas showing why he's the best keeper in the world again. I'm praying we play the same team versus the Mancs and hit them quicky like we did to Real. It wasnt that Real were poor it was that we were fantastic. I'm trying to be neutral and praise Madrid here but i can't find anything apart from Casillas to praise them for. None will want us in the next round although really people would prefer an easy passage into the semi final. Hope we dont draw and English side yet, but if we do so be it.

Great to see the Torres and Gerrard partnership blooming again and Jay Spearing deserves a mention too he was exceptional when he came on. Apart from the Madrid gut with the Everton fan some of them were singing at even 3-0 down although alot of people were shokced by our attacking approach. Apologies for this being a competely one sided post but what else did you expect after last night

Oh and instead of me sayign this in another thread, if Torres fouled Pepe then how much does Pepe weigh? He didnt pull him down just had his hand on his shoulder, some people are clutching at straws, although no it wasn't a penalty.
Hope we get Atletico/Porto, Panathanaikos/Villareal or Bayern although bring anyone on.

Reina (6) Didnt have much to do but what he did have to do, he did well.

Arbeloa (7) Still not sure if he can be THE right back we need after succeeding Finnan but a solid performance.

Carragher (7) Very rarely Carra gets less than 8 out of 10 really but didn't have much to do in defence but blocked everything out

Skrtel (7) Same as the rest of the defence, solid although wasnt exactly given a tough ride.

Aurelio (7) Another great performance from the Brazilian although a dissapointment that Insua may be left in the dark again.

Mascherano (9) MOTM for me with Casillas. Worked hard, was everywhere, however if his yellow card stays that way we'll miss him next match.

Alonso (8 Someone needs to take Rafa to one side and tell him to forget about selling Xabi. Our best player this season.

Kuyt (6) Not sure if i missed anything but apart from a few crosses and his assist for Torres he was fairly quiet.

Gerrard (8 Another dazzling display by Stevie with 2 goals. Lets hope he gets the team going for Old Trafford.

Babel (8 Riera still the best option on the left but another glimpse as to why he can be a crucial player for us. Set up number 3 and had a field day down that left flank.

Torres (9) Marry me.

I completely agree with this. Pepe slipped, and the penalty was wrong, but all of the goals were deserved. Pepe should have been redcarded for alot of horrific tackles, but then again... Stevie did take Ramos down pretty hard....
Spearing impressed me and Torres was on fire!

Love your comment on Torres (bold)

It's quite possible ESPN has the worst coverage of football anywhere in the world. The video quality is **** and you can only understand the commentator half the time.

espn's coverage was terrible. on another note. Saturday's game against united will be tougher than Madrid surely. but i believe . we've got to attack but not too much that we easily get hit on the counter.
