Rafa set to rescue Bentley

EXCLUSIVE BARCLAYS PREMIER LEAGUE

David Bentley could be poised for an astonishing move to Liverpool in January.

The midfielder only joined Tottenham in a £15million summer switch from Blackburn.

But Spurs are bottom of the Premier League following their worst start since 1912, and with Bentley dumped from Fabio Capello's latest England squad, Reds boss Rafa Benitez believes there is a chance he could tempt the player into a quick return to the north-west.Bentley almost joined Liverpool earlier in the year, but opted to sign up for Juande Ramos's White Hart Lane revolution.

But he has found himself at a club in turmoil and facing a battle to get back into the international fold following the emergence of Theo Walcott.

Bentley, 24, spoke to Ramos after last month's defeat by Aston Villa, complaining he was being played out of position.

Last weekend he was among the substitutes - and had to play at right-back when he came on.Benitez has had scouts at Spurs games watching Bentley's team-mate Gareth Bale with a view to signing the full-back in January or next summer.

Would love us to sign Bale, but Bentley I don't know, the guy looks good sometimes, other times he just looks like he can't be bothered.

Still, when a new winger is signed, could that be the farewell to Pennant? Be interested to see how Rafa will work/rotate if a new winger is signed in January, Benyanoun, Kuyt, Riera, Babel, El Zhar, then the new signing.

i can see Benayoun and Pennant being sold in the near future, and id like to see us sign Bentley, one because he is english and two, he is a classic winger, great crosser, he has pace & he likes to take on defenders

Not to keen on Bentley, Bale on the other hand would be a great signing. Watched him play for Wales on Sky yesterday and he stood out from the rest, he was up and down the left and put some great crosses into the box. He would be a great buy if Rafa could pull it off

God no..

Overrated, should have stayed at Blackburn.. I'd rather keep Pennant tbh..

But Bale would be a superb addition, but it's unlikely as we only signed Dossena this summer..

It'll help shut the critics up, saying that our first team is great, but our options on the bench are limited. So with Dossena, Aurellio and Bale, good options are there.

I would jump at the chance to have Bale here even if it meant Dossena or Aurelio on the bench. If Bentley was to come it would certainyl be the end of Babel

i dont see why you signing bentley should be the end of babel, i think he is probably your best winger and ive never understood why rafa doesnt start him more, although he does seem to have a better impact when he comes on as a sub. if you got bentley pennant should surely be the player to make way

Pennant will be off anyway and it looks like Rafa has his lalala stuck up Kuyt for life so if Bentley came and was first choice that would leave Babel third choice for the right and it doesnt look like he's getting in ahead of Riera anytime soon.

Because Riera creates a lot more than Babel does. Babel isn't a winger he is a striker playing on the left. He is not even left footed

Team for Wigan? Way too early i know but its been so borng another international break but the Premiership is back again.Whatever team we choose we need to kill the game by at least the 70th minute. Give some abit of a rest before Atletico and Chelsea.

---------------Reina----------------

Arbeloa--Carra----Agger---Aurelio-------

Kuyt---Gerrard--Masch----Riera------

--------Torres--Keane----------

It really all depends on what Rafa sees Wigan doing, I think. If Wigan is going to park the bus in front of the goal, I don't see Mascherano getting a run out as Alonso is a better playmaker; otherwise, I think you've got it set pretty well.

Can't see why we would bring in Bentley. We should go for someone younger, and better.

Juses Navas is all that I have off the top of my head.

Jakub "Kuba" Błaszczykowski, from Dortmund and Poland. He's 22, 23 in December, and he'll cost us less (which will allow for a better return in several years time...)

From this weekend: He sets up the first goal wonderfully, and he scores the second.

Great finish on the chip. I heard he's a little injury prone though. Hopefully he can clear that up

I wanted Capel instead of Riera

Although Riera has impressed me so far.

on a little sidenote...anyone got Carra's autobiography yet? i want it bad but cant find a place that sells it. Might have to buy it on the net.

I think we should play Alonso instead of Masch against Wigan for the same reason as above. Also from memory i think we are away to Atletico so Masch should definetly start for us then instead of Alonso.

Yeah definetely. He's the most honest bloke out there, gives his opinion on rotation, the Yanks etc. Its upto you whether you wait to see if the price comes down or not but for me personally it was worth the money i paid.
