Didn't get to watch it, where was he played? Widely or centrally?

He and Gareth Bale and Jo Ledley are the future of the Welsh squad, all we need to do is get rid of Toshack, his petty disagreements with some of the Welsh squad aren't doing us any favours. But I'm not going to rant about it.

Anyways, Lucas is more of a defensive minded player than Stevie, more of a Mascherano type player. We'll need someone with more of an attacking sense when Gerrard eventually retires.....someone with the combined ability of Gerrard and Alonso will do.

We can all dream.
BUT WHO???
i cant see a youngster who has potential for this, ATM

I think Lucas likes to get forward just like Gerrard does. I dont see his style of play to be anything like Mascherano's.

He just doesnt get to play in his favorite position because because Gerrard is always there.

He didn't play too badly. The problem lays upon Lampard, as I said in the thread about the game, Lampard gets forward more often than not, which leaves Gerrard around the half way line, where he can't be dangerous. Can't fault Lampard for it, because he's that type of player, the two of them should be sat down for them to discuss and sort out a way of them both getting themselves forward, while one stays back. Alternate during the game. It's not always as simple as saying "ok you go forward at this point" etc. but that can sorted out by the two communicating.

Stevie has got another 7 years in him at least, so there is no real rush to find a replacement yet

Rafa looking for right-side-Riera
Rafael Benitez is believed to be in the market for a right sided midfielder, after seeing latest Spanish import Albert Riera, kick off his Liverpool career in style.

The Spaniard had a ‘baptism of fire’ when he started against Manchester United but managed to give an excellent account of himself before being replaced by Ryan Babel on 71 minutes, who netted the winning goal in a 2-1 victory.

Despite admitting that the number 11’s best is still to come, Benitez has been encouraged by Riera’s impact on the team’s attacking displays and is believed to now be in the market for a right sided player of equal quality.

The names that have been cropping up should be familiar with anyone who followed all the names we were linked with in the summer and they take shape in the form of Wigan’s Antonio Valencia and Borussia Dortmund’s Kuba, better known to his parents as Jakub Blaszczykowski.

Premiership followers will be familiar with Antonio Valencia but ‘Kuba’ is also in a similar mould, as a quick and tricky right-sided midfielder / winger. The Pole, aged just 22, is also capable of playing right wing back, which would tick the flexibility criteria that Benitez often craves in his players.

Whilst such signings would increase the likelihood of playing two wingers in the first team regularly, Benitez may just want an option and competition for the right hand side, which Dirk Kuyt has claimed rightfully or wrongfully in the eyes of many.

Valencia is supposedly being watched by Manchester United whilst Kuba remains one to keep your eye out for. If he was to join, Kuba would link up with Philipp Degen once again, who left the Westfalenstadion last summer.
As much as i like Keane i cant understand why Rafa didn't go out and buy a player like quersma instead of a striker in the summer

There is no doubt that Kuyt is a striker, the game against the mancs proved that. We need a natural RW because at the moment Kuyt is just running all over the place and arbeloa is working the whole right side. Most times this season i have seen arbeloa getting crosses into the box that haven't reached anyone and just role out of play.

Maybe if we sign this kuba guy then Kuyt will go back into the strikers role, which will probably mean Rafa chopping and changing with Kuyt and Keane to play alongside Torres.

Jakub Błaszczykowski

The guy is defiantly a talent. He has pace a deadly cross and an eye for a goal and is only 22

he's well......ok, not great imo (the dive was terrable), we need a proven winger, fast, willing to take on defenders, good infront of goal, and can cross

Joaquin would be a good choice but i doubt valencia would sell him considering he is in top form for them this season and would probably cost a lot should they consider a move
