Reina ready to remain a Red
by Tom Kell, 21 July 2008 Jose Reina insists he has no intention of returning to Spain and is fully committed to ‘winning a big trophy’ with Liverpool this season. Reina has cemented The Reds’ number one spot since arriving from Villarreal in 2005 with Rafa Benitez happy to let England international Scott Carson leave such is his confidence in his fellow countryman. As with Benitez, there are persistent rumours that Reina could be lured back to La liga, but it seems that nothing could be further from the player’s mind. "I won't consider returning to Spain," said Reina. "I like Liverpool and it doesn't even enter my head to return already to Spanish football - and that goes for my family as well. "I want to celebrate winning a big trophy with Liverpool this season and if we do I promise my team-mates I will cook them some excellent seafood in return!" Reina was also in humble mood when asked about Real Madrid keeper Iker Casillas, who has consistently kept him out of the Spain starting line-up, including when captaining them to Euro 2008 glory last month. "We are of the same generation and that's bad luck for me but I do not feel eclipsed in the Spanish squad and I will keep training as hard as I always have," he added. "Casillas and I are friends and he deserves all the praise he is getting - if you list the best goalkeepers in the world there is no doubt that Casillas is among them." Riera desperate for Reds move
by Chris Stanton, 21 July 2008 Albert Riera would not dream of turning down a move to Liverpool if The Reds firm up their interest in the wantaway Espanyol midfielder. Reports in the Barcelona press claim Rafa Benitez is weighing up a €10 million (about £8 million) bid for the Spain international. Espanyol are reported to be holding out for €15 million (about £12 million) but Riera is hoping that he is given the opportunity to return to The Premier League, a division the 26-year-old knows well from a loan spell at Manchester City two years ago. "I know English football and it is an attractive option for players,” said Riera. "If Espanyol do finally receive an offer I do not want to miss the opportunity to go to Liverpool. The option to join a superclub doesn’t come every day. “I am a realistic person but this has given me something to look forward to. “To reject the possibility of a move would be madness.” Espanyol’s sporting director Paco Herrera was remaining non-committal when quizzed on the player’s future. "It is necessary to study the options and after that we’ll make a decision,” said Herrera. Premier League Riera on Liverpool link - Setanta Sports |

Liverpool FC in for French teenager David Ngog
JUL 21 2008 BY TONY BARRETT, LIVERPOOL ECHO LIVERPOOL are set to sign teenage French forward David Ngog from Paris Saint Germain in a proposed £1.5m deal. Rafa Benitez is ready to make the 19-year-old his fourth signing of the summer, coming hot on the heels of the acquisitions of Philipp Degen, Andrea Dossena and Diego Cavalieri, as he re-shapes his squad for the coming season. A fee has been agreed with PSG who have accepted defeat in their battle to keep the player as he enters the final year of his contract and terms have also been agreed with Ngog. The cousin of former Newcastle United defender Jean-Alain Boumsong, Ngog has developed a reputation as one of the most promising young strikers in French football and despite only scoring a single goal for PSG last season he did enough to impress Liverpool’s scouts who had no hesitation in recommending him to Benitez. Born in the Parisian suburb of Gennevilliers, Ngog has come through the ranks at PSG and made his debut last season. Should the proposed deal go through later this week as expected Ngog will join up with his new team-mates after they have returned to Melwood from their Swiss training camp on Wednesday. Liverpool also snapped up teenagers Vincent Lucas Weijl and Nikola Saric recently but while they will go into Gary Ablett’s reserve squad, Ngog has been earmarked for the first team. Benitez is looking for more pace, movement and variety from his side in attack in the forthcoming season and the impending capture of Ngog fits into that strategy. The move for the striker has no bearing on Liverpool’s bid to sign Robbie Keane and though the move for the Irishman is taking longer to be completed than first expected, senior Anfield figures remain confident a deal will be struck this week. The transfer market is expected to hot up in the coming days and Liverpool will be busier than most with at least two potential signings in the pipeline and a number of Reds players up for grabs. Jermaine Pennant has reiterated his desire to remain at Anfield but should Liverpool receive an offer which matches Benitez’s valuation he will be sold. Similarly, Andriy Voronin continues to attract interest from German clubs and the Ukrainian’s Liverpool career looks to be drawing to a close despite getting his name on the scoresheet for the second game running in the 1-1 draw with Wisla Krakow. Steven Gerrard and Degen missed that fixture as both are suffering from minor groin injuries. Degen should recover in time for tomorrow’s meeting with Hertha Berlin but Gerrard will again miss out. There is a 35 year wait for Green Bay season tickets is what I was getting at. People often put their names on the list and when they get their tickets give them to their son or grandson.
If I were to walk up to Anfield on a game day then how much could I buy a ticket from somebody for?
