Rafa Still Chasing Silva
Liverpool are ready to step up their interest in Valencia winger David Silva, according to reports… The S*n claims that the Merseyside giants are aiming to tie up a deal for around ₤16million as they seek to increase their flair options this summer. Reds boss Rafa Benitez announced yesterday that he is keeping a very close eye on David Villa, the Valencia striker who scored four-goals at EURO 2008 last month to help Spain to their first major title in over four decades. Benitez’s revelation sent up warning signals all across Europe, as many believed the wily Spaniard may have been using Villa – an obvious target, given his link with Fernando Torres for La Furia Roja – as a smokescreen for a more secretive deal. And in Silva, who also featured prominently in Austria and Switzerland, he has a player who will cost half the price – in both wage and transfer fee – of his Mestalla team-mate and would bring some much-needed versatility to Liverpool’s attack. Although usually classed as a winger, the 22-year-old is an elusive playmaker who can works all across the park and in between the lines, making him a perfect candidate to slot into either wide role in the Reds’ 4-2-3-1 shape. Los Che may not necessarily be amicable sellers but their current financial state means they must offload either Villa or Silva, their two most bankable stars, with whom Barcelona have also been linked. 16 million would be an absolute steal. But i dont really see that being a winning bid. Valencia are desparate, but not that desperate. There are several clubs that are chasing his signature. We need to make a big bid to secure that he'll be here next season. Last edited by Portland1; 10-07-2008 at 06:05 AM.. |

We can't sign both of them.
Where would Villa fit into our formation? Unless we changed things up then I think Silva would definitely fit into our formation better. And yeah he would fit well and we should definitely go after him. Top class wingers make strikers look better which means we wouldn't necessarily need a world class striker signing this summer, just somebody that could play off Stevie, Nino, and the wingers well.

it would be nice if Voronin stepped up this year and played well. He's had his first season in the premiership and hopefully he will find form to form a good partnership with Torres. He needs to get rid of the ponytail before i can start to like him though

Liverpool have confirmed they will face Lazio in a friendly to be played at Anfield on Friday, August 8. The game will see the club play their first pre-season fixture at home for five years, when Rafael Benitez's Valencia side came to Anfield and claimed an impressive 2-0 win. The clash with Delio Rossi's men will provide the Reds with a final warm-up match ahead of the Champions League qualifying round and the big kick-off at Sunderland on August 16. Liverpool's confirmed pre-season programme so far is as follows: July 12: v Tranmere (Wirral) July 16: v FC Lucerne (Grenchen) July 19: v Wisla Krakow (Friborg) July 22: v Hertha Berlin (Berlin) July 30: v Villarreal (Villarreal) August 2: v Rangers (Glasgow) August 5: v Valerengen (Oslo) August 8: v Lazio (Liverpool) |

Fire sale at Spurs - The S*n
Juande Ramos is to wield an almighty axe at White Hart Lane, with 11 senior pros on their way out. At the head of the queue are Robbie Keane, Steed Malbranque and Paul Robinson. Real set Robinho fee - Daily Star Real Madrid have told Manchester United and Chelsea that it will cost £30million to prise Robinho from the Spanish capital. (would'nt mind seeing him at liverpool)

Alright, Say Keane is sold... He could go for £20mill easy. So you are better off getting our favourite spanish striker who is 2 years younger, for the same price

MORE ON BARRY
Aston Villa boss Martin O’Neill says Liverpool know what they have to pay to land Gareth Barry. The fiery Norther-Irishman has laid down the law to Rafael Benitez, and have finally given the Reds a solid transfer fee to target. The Birmingham Mail says Villa rejected a straight £15million bid for Barry last week and it is understood their asking price remains £18million - or £17million plus fullback Steve Finnan, although many fans and pundits alike are saying that this is still too much for a 27 year-old. Aston Villa initially wanted £15million, and then when Liverpool matched that target, they raised it to £18million. Now they have lowered it to £17million plus Liverpool’s long-serving right-back, Steve Finnan, suggesting that the former Ireland international is only worth £1million. “Liverpool have come back to us and we have responded to their proposal with a letter,” O’Neill said. “We’re still waiting to hear back from Liverpool after putting that proposal to them. “It’s really up to Liverpool. I really don’t know how it’s going to work out at the moment. “I’m sure there will be some sort of resolution at some stage or another.” Apart from our dear friend Christiano Ronaldo’s rumoured transfer to Real Madrid, Gareth Barry’s move to Anfield is one of the longest-running transfer sagas of the summer transfer window. However it seems as if this one is reaching its high-profile, and rather expensive conclusion. |
