What's happening on the 12th with Gerrard? I thought he was scheduled to play in that Goal4Africa game but the Tranmere game's on the same day, will Benitez let some of the younger guys show him what they can do? I'd like to see Gerrard in that match playing with Pirlo, it's being shown the day after on Eurosport I think, according to their website.

Crouch signs for Portsmouth..

Peter Crouch finally landed his move to Portsmouth yesterday after the south coast club relented over his valuation and had a £10million bid accepted by Liverpool.

Throughout months of uncertainty over his future, the striker has insisted he would consider quitting Anfield only for Fratton Park, despite Tottenham offering £9m for him less than a fortnight ago.

His wish was granted when the two clubs struck an agreement last night over a deal that will be confirmed when the Football Association offices open on Monday morning.

Crouch was in jubilant mood after learning that Portsmouth had succeeded in a pursuit that was first revealed in Sportsmail earlier this year.

He made it clear he was prepared to run down the final year of his Liverpool contract rather than be forced into joining any other club, such was his determination to link up with Harry Redknapp and boost the ranks of England players at Fratton Park.

Portsmouth already have a quartet of England squad members in David James, Jermain Defoe, Glen Johnson and David Nugent. Crouch has long felt that more frequent starts under Redknapp would reinforce his standing at international level.

Liverpool will receive £8m up front and will waste little time putting it to good use.

They are close to sorting out the fine detail of Gareth Barry's protracted move from Aston Villa and are still exploring ways of prising £20m rated striker Robbie Keane away from Tottenham.

With Juventus expected to meet the £15m price tag on Xabi Alonso, they could soon have the funds needed to launch another bid for Keane.

Yossi Benayoun has turned down the chance of a move to Ajax and told boss Rafa Benitez he wants to fight for his place at Liverpool.

Ajax chiefs were given permission to speak with Benayoun's representatives after registering their interest with Liverpool, as revealed in Sportsmail.

But despite the prospect of linking up again with one of his former coaches, Danny Blind, and interest from Tottenham and Portsmouth, the Israel midfielder has made it clear he intends staying at Anfield.

he made his debut in the 2nd best league aged 16, for one of the better teams... he was dubbed the best player of our U-17 team, which also contains players like Kevin Mensah and Alexander Juel (both have been on trials in several big clubs).. Most big clubs chased him, also the club which calls themselves the best academy in Scandinavia (Midtjylland) wanted him... He has earlier admitted he's a Liverpool fan, so it seems natural he's going there... i just don't hope he'll be another Mads Timm...

I liked crouch, sad to see him go. i just dont think he got enough time in the first team last year. Hopefully Rafa puts those funds to good use.

I'm pleased with all the young singings as of late, rafas looking to make sure we have a good team in the future.

I want them both then.
We are Liverpool. We should be able to afford them both.

Ten Things you didn’t know about Dossena

1. Andrea started playing football for Fanfulla, an amateur side from Lodi. He then joined Hellas Verona at the age of 14. During his career he has also played for Treviso and Udinese.

2. He loves reading crime novels and listening to music. He also enjoys travelling around the world – he has already been to Mexico, the Maldives and visited the USA last year.

3. Andrea will be the first Italian international to play for Liverpool. The player passed his medical at Melwood earlier this month.

4. Dossena made his Serie A debut for Hellas Verona on November 18, 2001, in the derby against Chievo. His team went on to celebrate a 3-2 win over their city rivals.

5. In May 2008 the full-back revealed his passion for the Reds. He said: "Liverpool are a great team, and it is great to be linked to such a famous club. I want to play Champions League football, the Reds have already won it and they often get to the big games. In England, they are on the same level as Manchester United."

6. The 5ft 11 defender made 35 appearances for Udinese last year, netting two goals, including a screamer against Juventus. With the Zebrette he used to wear the number 8 shirt.

7. The left-back enjoyed a nine year stay at Hellas Verona and still regards them as one of his favourites teams. "I will never forget Verona, I always keep it in my heart," he insisted.

8. In October 2007, aged 26, Andrea earned his one and only cap for Italy taking part in a friendly game against South Africa. His debut was really positive as he set up a goal for the World Champions. In the 2000-01 season, he made four appearances with Italy Under-21 National Team.

9. After having long hair for several years, Andrea decided to shave his head at the beginning of the past season. "They told me I looked angry with that haircut, so I was forced to change," he said.

10. The 27-year-old was born on September 11, and shares his birthday with German legend Franz Beckenbauer and American singer Moby.

What's so good about Dossena? I've never heard of him until the rumours started.
