It is getting quite boring isn't it Dave..

Go back to the Man U thread, 'Manc'...

Anyway, Pellegrino was a top defender in his day, and could probably use that to help the defence.. IIRC, he was poor, but he was a great defender at set-pieces, which we struggled with last season.. Maybe that will change..

Different source so i think it should be safe to discuss. Elisha Scott over on YNWA said "The Keane thing is possible though, he shares an agent with Gerrard". Keane is apparently keen but will probably have to push for the move because Spurs don't want to lose him.

Benítez offers Crouch and cash to lure Keane | Football | The Guardian

Quote:
Rafael Benítez will pursue his interest in Robbie Keane despite Tottenham's insistence that their vice-captain is not for sale. The Liverpool manager has proposed a cash-plus-Peter Crouch deal but the Republic of Ireland international will have to agitate for a move to bring Benítez's pursuit to fruition.

Keane has emerged as a leading target for Liverpool after discussions between Anfield officials and their Spurs counterparts about Crouch, the England international who is valued at between £10m and £12m and is also wanted by Portsmouth, Manchester City, Newcastle and possibly Arsenal.
Benítez, encouraged by Gareth Barry's willingness to make a public request for a move from Aston Villa, now hopes similar tactics will lure the 27-year-old Keane to Liverpool, the club he supported as a boy and who can offer Champions League football. Tottenham instantly dismissed Liverpool's approach last week but Benítez will persist with efforts to induce Keane to move. A £20m-rated deal involving Crouch would suit Liverpool but should the England forward resist a return to White Hart Lane they could put money from his sale towards a straight cash bid.

The Liverpool manager has allocated his existing transfer budget to the purchases of Barry and the left-back Andrea Dossena, who will finalise his £8m transfer from Udinese this week. Further signings will be dependent on player sales.
Benítez's exhaustive attempts to prise away the Villa captain received a significant assist yesterday when Barry criticised his manager, Martin O'Neill, and for the first time publicly declared his desire to leave.
"My mind's made up - I want to join Liverpool," he said. "There's no going back; it's time for me to move on. I'm desperate to play Champions League football and that's why I have to leave Villa.

"Villa kept saying they wanted me to stay but I have not heard from the manager for weeks. It's seven weeks now since the season finished but while the gaffer's found time to be a pundit for the BBC at Euro 2008 he hasn't found the time to speak to me. Have Villa offered me anything to try to persuade me my future is at Villa Park, not Anfield? Not a thing."

The decision on whether Everton's proposed stadium in Kirkby should be called in by the government has been delayed. Everton were due to learn this week whether their move would be subject to government scrutiny, entailing a delay which would be likely to scupper the proposal because of rising costs, but the Government Office for the North West has requested an extra fortnight to consider the plan.

So if Keane comes this means no David Villa?

Would be a great addition to the team. Keane has an eye for goal and fantastic movement. Would complement Torres perfectly.

I still think Villa sould be our number 1 target

I agree. Him and Babel can switch wings like he did for Spain. It worked pretty good in the Euros

Keane Demands Liverpool Switch - Report
Tottenham Hotspur striker Robbie Keane has reportedly pulled a Gareth Barry by demanding he be transferred to Liverpool…

The Sun claims that Keane has told Spurs boss Juande Ramos he wants to leave, just days after Barry publicly announced his desire to quit Aston Villa in favour of the Reds.

The Merseyside giants have been linked on and off with the Irish hitman over the past few seasons, though never with any great conviction.

However, recent developments and the current circumstances of both clubs suggest the speculation may be more concrete this time around.

Rafa Benitez is keen to increase his attacking options over the summer to accommodate his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, especially given the likely departure of unsettled target-man Peter Crouch.

Hence, the Spaniard has reportedly offered the England international to the Lilywhites in a part player-exchange valued at around ₤20million, which would see Keane make the switch to Anfield.

Ramos will not let half of his star strike-duo leave so easily, however, especially given the other half – Dimitar Berbatov – is also intent on exiting White Hart Lane.

The pair have tallied an impressive 91 goals in their two seasons together, establishing themselves as arguably the Premier League’s most lethal goal-scoring partnership.

And so if one leaves in search of Champions League football, it is quite likely that the other may wish to follow – which would explain Ramos’ reluctance to sell ₤16million flop Darren Bent.

If this is true, it is indeed great news. Keane is one of the top strikers in the premiership and has already proven to be a threat in this league. I think that the 20 million would be well worth it, and getting a player that is proven in this league is very important. Not everyone can adjust to this league like Torres has, and we have to keep that in mind. I'd love to see David Villa in a Liverpool jersey, but if someone like Keane becomes available and for less money than i'll absolutely take him.

Picking up Keane would mean that we could now focus on picking up a top quality winger such as David Silva or Bastian Schweinsteiger. Shweinsteiger can play most midfield positions and is an excellent dribbler.

As long as Rafa forgets Barry, I'm happy

Keane + Silva + VDV this summer? But that's kinda unrealistic...

Maybe Degen does better than Arbeloa... We'll have to wait and see...

Possibly:

Degen-------Carra-----------Agger/Skrtel---------Dossena

----------------------Gerrard---Mascherano/Alonso--------

Babel----------------------Keane----------------Silva/Schweinsteiger

---------------------------Torres---------------------------

Reds Eye Wantaway Juninho
Liverpool have been tentatively linked with a move for disgruntled Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Juninho Pernambucano…

uninho recently told l’Equipe that he may leave Stade Gerland this summer, as he is less than satisfied with Lyon’s decision to sack Alain Perrin as coach and hire Claude Puel in his stead.

And rumours have sprung up that Reds boss Rafa Benitez is willing to pay ₤3million to bring the 33-year-old to Anfield.

The Brazilian playmaker may not have youth on his side, but he is nonetheless regarded as one of Europe’s pre-eminent attacking midfielders and arguably the finest free-kick taker in the world.

While all reports at this stage are little more than mere speculation, the former Selecao star could be seen as an ideal mentor for his young compatriot Lucas Leiva and, of course, the solution to Liverpool's inconsistency from dead-ball situations.

I dont really understand this move, if it were to be true. But Juninho knows what it is like to win titles with several Ligue 1 titles and a world cup under his belt. He is an incredible free kicker though. Despite his age, he is still a great player.
