Prem/Serie A: Riise completes Roma move - Setanta Sports

Riise completes Roma move
by JP Lonergan, 18 June 2008

John Arne Riise has completed his move from Liverpool to Roma, with the Serie A giants declaring that he has signed on a four-year deal.

The versatile left-sided Norwegian will join Luciano Spalletti’s side after falling out of favour at Anfield after seven years on Merseyside.

Riise, who has joined The Giallorossi for five million euros, made over 300 appearances under Rafael Benitez and previously Gerard Houllier at Liverpool after signing from Monaco. However, the emergence of Brazilian Fabio Aurelio saw his chances become more limited on the left in his final season on Merseyside.

So long JAR.

I liked Riise, its unfortunate he had to leave on such bad terms (own goal). Roma is my favorite Italian team, so it isnt that bad.

Bye JAR. Absolute legend. Always remember the highs ( vs. Man U especially), and maybe we will meet again someday.

YNWA

[Edit] Also just ordered the new away kit. Found out last time we won the league, we had a grey kit.. Maybe a sign..

I read that Rafa is prepared to walk away from the Barry deal, is that a good thing? I think £20m is extremely steap just because he is English.

THATS A GOOD THING!!!! Use the Money to get Quaresma or somethin... But it can also be bad.. as Gerrard would be angry.... for not buying one of his best mates...

I suppose, I really think we can find someone better for a much lower price, then again we need to buy world class players to have a shot at the title. A few more signings like Torres and we are sorted.

Plus why are we even linked with Milner? £10m? F*** off!

Quaresma hasn't played well at the Euros at all. I don't rate him

De La Red would be cheaper and unlike Barry he can score some cracking goals

RIISE: I WANTED A NEW EXPERIENCE
Paul Hassall 19 June 2008

John Arne Riise has spoken for the first time of his delight at completing his move to Serie A giants AS Roma.
The Norwegian full-back, who has signed a four year deal with Luciano Spalletti's side, is relishing the chance to experience a new style of football and admits he can't wait to begin his new challenge in the Italian capital.

"I wanted a new experience and to get to know a new type of football," said Riise.

"I chose Roma because they are a great club with great fans and they won the Coppa Italia.

"I met the Coach and I will listen to him and try to give my best. The passion of Luciano Spalletti struck me and now I will try and learn Italian so that I can get to work.

"I'm the kind of player who gives everything he has for the team and I want to thank my new boss for wanting me here.

"Roma have experienced players. I know Ludovic Giuly from my time at Monaco where we played together and Francesco Totti is a phenomenon.

"Then there's Daniele De Rossi, who is one of the best midfielders in Europe and who is growing into a truly great player."

After seven years with Liverpool, the decision to swap Anfield for Serie A did not come easily, but after speaking to his Norwegian international teammate, John Carew - himself a former Roma player - Riise is convinced he has made the right decision.

"I spoke to John and he said good things about the atmosphere," he added.

"I have only just arrived and I immediately feel at home. The city is very beautiful and the weather is splendid – it's even warm at nine o'clock in the morning."

!!! Quaresma is a Skillful Player... that would do well in liverpool. Just because hes not playing well in the euros dosen't mean he isn't a good player
