Totally agree.. i think it's all but certain unless we sign Villa our team is looking like this so far:
----------------Reina----------------- Degen---Carra---Skrtel or Agger---Dossena ---------Masch---------Barry just really need to concentrate on the attacking players now |

Either of them would make us an instant contender for the Premiership and other titles. We need to go for it now that Valencia are in trouble.
It didn't help us that Villa had a hat trick. His price probably just raised 5 million. Also, I wouldn't read too much into Villa running over to Torres first all three times. Maybe they are just good buddies, not necessarily future club teammates. I want it to happen badly but I don't think that's much of a sign.

Although Villa and Torres would be fantastic, it does raise some problems for the central midfield. who would we rather play, Gerrard/Barry or Gerrard/Masch? Or could Gerrard possibly play on the wing?
Gerrard and Barry showed that they could link up nicely in the USA and Trinidad friendlies last week. But Masch has to be one of the toughest players out there and is an incredible tackler. David Villa will not go to a place where he wont play every game, thus rafa must change his beloved 4-2-3-1 formation. I say bring on the spanish players. Silva, Villa and any others we can get. They love it here. |

Gerrard must be as many games as possible in the centre. Barry and Masch should fight it out for the other position (providing Alonso leaves and we actually get Barry). Gerrard doesnt like playing on the wing and he is Mr.Liverpool so he should get what he wants.

Benitez to step up fundraising efforts
Jun 11 2008 by Nick Smith, Liverpool Daily Post RAFAEL BENITEZ will step up his attempts to offload his surplus Liverpool players after accepting that this summer’s transfer budget could restrict attempts to strengthen the squad. With Gareth Barry having expressed his desire to play Champions League football with Liverpool to Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill, Benitez is keen to push through the transfer of the England international. The Midlands club are likely to hold out for a fee of around £15million, the cost of which could be covered by Peter Crouch being included in the deal or Xabi Alonso’s likely move to Juventus after Euro 2008. But Benitez has conceded the need to raise funds with transfers, with Crouch the most lucrative asset. “If we had a lot of money to spend it would obviously be better,” said Benitez, whose budget is unaffected by the £33million loss revealed in the Kop Holdings Ltd accounts. “But if we don’t it doesn’t matter. “It is not about buying the most expensive players, it is about buying the right ones. “We have the spine of the team and we can sell some players to get the others we need.” Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp has already revealed an asking price of £10million would interest him in Crouch. It would appear Newcastle have the means to make a move as well if they fail to secure St Etienne frontman Bafetimibi Gomis for a similar price. Strengthening the flanks remains a priority but with such confidence in the spine of the side, Benitez has no intention of abandoning efforts to bring the Premier League title to Anfield. “I said at the end of the season I was very happy here and I will say it again,” he said. “I would not have brought players like Fernando Torres and the young players we have here if I did not have a long term vision for the club. “Now is not the time to be saying goodbye! “Fernando’s agent has asked about my Liverpool future and my answer is that I am 100% committed.” As for Barry, his agent Alex Black’s assertion that playing at the top tier of European football has swayed him to leave Aston Villa seems to confirm the hint the player dropped himself last week. The 27-year-old has been a Villa Park regular for 10 years but with having to go through the Intertoto route just to make the UEFA Cup next season is not an outcome that convinces the player that staying will fulfil his ambitions. “Champions League football helps any player,” said Barry. “You only have to look at the England squad to see the amount of players who start the games – the majority play in the Champions League. “That’s all about the decision that will have to be made by myself. Liverpool are in the Champions League and Villa are trying to push for that. That’s all part of my decision if a bid gets accepted. “There’s so much to lose at Aston Villa. I’ve been there for 10 years, got a good rapport with the fans, I’m captain, great relationship with the manager.” |

Gareth Barry has confirmed his desire to leave Aston Villa for Liverpool this summer.
The Villa captain is Rafa Benitez's top transfer target and the Liverpool boss has already had one £10million bid rejected. Barry's agent, Alex Black, stated on Tuesday that the player was keen to leave Villa Park in search of Champions League football. And Villa have now confirmed that Barry, who is believed to be valued at around £15million, has informed manager Martin O'Neill that he wants to join Liverpool. In a statement Villa said: "Gareth Barry has stated in discussions with our manager he would like to leave Aston Villa to join Liverpool. "But Liverpool's bid for the player has been rejected and they have been informed of Villa's continued position in this matter." The presence of Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, who is a close friend of Barry, at Anfield is understood to be a major bargaining chip. And Liverpool are expected to up their offer within the next 48 hours as they attempt to land England international Barry. |

If we got Villa... mate it'd be amazing! Watching Torres and Villa today, it was just fantastic. They look like great friends aswell (Villa running to the bench just to hug Torres!).
If we get him, alls we need to concentrate on is our Wingers and maybe a few defenders. Also a new keeper to keep Reina on his toes.

i have a feeling that if Villa and Torres to continue the way there playing together in the Euro and if Spain get far then i think there's a good chance he'll be going to Liverpool.

![]() Aston Villa have turned down Liverpool's latest bid to sign midfielder Gareth Barry. Barry has emerged as Liverpool's leading transfer target of the summer, and have already had one bid rejected by their Premier League rivals. However, Villa have confirmed that The Reds stepped up their interest on Wednesday evening only to have their second approach rebuffed once more. A Villa spokesman said on the club's official website: "The offer was a slight improvement on a previous bid but our position on the issue remains unchanged and Liverpool have been informed." The latest offer is reportedly in the region of £15million, but rumours claim Villa boss Martin O'Neill is holding out for a fee of £20million. |
