But he is amazing and Carrick has had a shaky start to the season but as Fergie said, he is always a slow starter, but he will be good, not to mention when Hargreaves comes back, I don't think you know what you are talking about.

I agree, he is amazing, but apart from him and Fletcher Utd's midfield is sub par. That's why I think that when Giggs is fatigued, injured or out of form, Utd lack a creative influence.

Spot on. I don't expect Utd to run away with it this season, it's going to be tought. The big difference is our squad compared to Liverpool. Today Liverpool showed they are definitely a 2 man team, without Torres and Gerrard they really are average. Utd, Chelski, Arsenal have stronger squads without having to rely on 2 key players to get them the result.
I had a feeling someone would bring up the whole "two man team" lalalala. We've been poor all season. Yes, with those two we probably would've been more of a threat infront of goal, but that's pretty obvious, if you took the main strike force out've any team and had to shuffle, they would undoubtedly be weakened. As I said, we've been poor all season, they got a bit of luck with the goal, and there's no use thinking "what if" when it comes to Torres and/or Gerrard.

What a tough PL debut for him.
Glad Rafa has acknowleged him to be honest, though it was the wrong time. Mascherano should've started, but I am glad Jay was in Rafa's eyes.

EDIT: Why aren't quotes working properly?

Whats Spearing done to be "acknowledged"? He's never shown anything in his appearances to earn a start.

Well what has he done that's made you think he should've played before now? He's almost 21 yet he's still to do something meaningful. Even in dead heat games he doesn't stand out.

In his two '10 minute' cameos and a full game against Leeds.. He needs more of a chance before you completely rule him out..

As for the two man team comment.. We've lost three in a row, two of them saw us with our 'two-man team' playing..

Meh, I'm fine ruling him out. He gets lauded as some sort of future starter for us when in reality he's never going to be and just because he's a local player doesn't mean he deserves more chances. He doesn't have what it takes and you can quote this.

He looks to be a decent player. Giving him oppurtunities in the first team will give everyone a clear view of what he can do at the top level, instead of just having to judge at reserve level. Plus his nationality may help in a few years.

That's exactly my problem. It's nothing against Spearing but I just feel that people are wanting him to get chances because he's local. Personally I couldn't care less, give the best performers in training the chances not the local lads.

Cracks me up when you think back to the people saying Spearing is better than Lucas.

Well, with the way things are looking, about having this many English, this many foreigners and such like, if the guy can live up to his hype, or atleast to Lucas' level, he could become an important squad player.

Plus, Mascherano got back late last night so I can see why Spearing was thrown in, though I'd had rathered the sub be the other way round. Masch to start, Spearing to brought on.

Even if his does flop, I'd be happy to see him get a chance.

I'm suprised Riera didn't get on, he should've been one of the 3 subs to come on imo.

For Skrtel? Let Babel play up with Kuyt instead of Voronin?

Same.

That is Spearing.. I'm thinking that you seem that he's only here because he's local.. People do want to see the local lads given a go, but they also know when they aren't good enough.. Spearing hasn't had a real chance to prove that he is, or that he isn't..

He works hard in training from what I've heard and always performs for the reserves.. So why shouldn't he get a chance?..

I just don't think he's up to it. Say he hasn't played enough if you like and it's probably true that I'm being harsh but he has shown nothing except for determination. That isn't enough. People criticised Lucas when he first got games but he showed a lot more ability than Spearing has. Even at reserve level when they played together it was clear to see the better player.

I'm not really against Spearing getting a chance, just that looking ahead there really is no opportunities in the league as they are too important to be testing youth. Today was an error by Rafa imo. Not that i'm saying it was what cost us the game because we were dire and Spearing can't take the blame, but it wasn't the right decision to play him imo.

Who should have played?.. Masch wasn't fully 100% fit, while Plessis doesn't deserve to be near the team.. I thought he did well..
