So ummm....4-4-2 tonight and we looked disjointed. Gerrard had an average game in the centre of midfield. Lucas played well again. 1-1 in the 4-4-2 good or bad debate so far.

ITV and a few others seem to think we are still playing 4-2-3-1, just with Kuyt in Gerrard's slot. Not really much of a difference to be honest with 4-4-2.

Yea that's possible. It's pretty similar. Kuyt plays slightly more advanced that Gerrard did but it's not really a conventional 4-4-2. I just said that because I got stick for the 4-4-2 supposedly being the super fix vs Burnley.

It wasn't 4-4-2 it was more of a 4-1-3-1-1 formation:

-----------------Reina--------------
Johnson---Carra----Skrtel---Insua
-----------------Lucas------------
Yossi-----------Gerrard-------Riera
------------------Kuyt--------------
-----------------Torres-------------

With Kuyt and Stevie switching over a few times. Where as Saturday it was a 4-4-2 with Stevie acting as the playmaker going forward.

England have so many better wingers: Young, Beckham, Lennon, Wright-Phillips, J. Cole, Milner, Downing and Gerrard plays there a fair bit to.

Pennant has talent no doubt about it. For some reason he just couldn't produce it on a constant basis. I remember some of the great games he played for us like against Arsenal in 06/07. On his day he is a good winger but if you don't perform in the premier league, it's going to be tough to make the england team.

QUARTER OF LIVERPOOL UP FOR SALE?

Posted 17/09/09 09:51
EmailPrintSave

Tom Hicks has reportedly instructed Merrill Lynch to find a buyer for 25% of Liverpool to fund the building of a new stadium.

Although the club is valued at £500m, investors would get a quarter of the business for just £100m, according to The Guardian.

They are apparently targeting potential Middle East investors willing to take on a a share of the current £310m debt, though that is set to be reduced to £250m under the terms of the latest refinancing deal.

Hicks and his co-owner George Gillett have been making noises all week about the strong financial state of the club, boosted by a new £20m-a-year sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered Bank.

Gillett said: "The club is in outstanding shape. Economically, it's never been stronger. We just paid down our debt very substantially. We have less debt per dollar than any club in the league."

Doubt any arab will buy 25% of our club. This is a clear message that the yanks want to bring in some mega rich arab to fork out for a new stadium and transfers while they sit back and take all the credit for it.

SOS should go for it. Would be interesting to see the yanks response if they stump up the money thats needed for the 25% stake.

Liverpool target Angel Di Maria has had his buy-out clause increased to £40m by Portuguese club Benfica as they brace themselves for a bid from the Premier League side.

United, managed by Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer, include striker Federico Macheda in their team.

Liverpool team:

David Martin
Stephen Darby
Steven Irwin
Daniel Ayala
Chris Mavinga
Victor Palsson
David Ngog
David Amoo
Nathan Eccleston
Damien Plessis
Alex Kacaniklic

Subs

Emmanuel Mendy

What makes you say that? I'm no fan of G+H but nothing SOS done suggests they would be good at owning a club.

Pretty much summed up their ignorance of how to run a club when they were petitioning for RBS not to allow them more time to repay debt. Essentially meaning the club would be forced into administration or liquidation. These sound like good potential owners to you?

I'd have to agree with LFC, would rather SOS not get anything tbh.. I understand what they are doing and do think they have the right intentions, but they aren't the ones to push us forward.. I think Gillett and Hicks are actually, they seem to have realised what they need to do now.. Hopefully they can follow that up with actions now..

As for last night, for a European game, the atmosphere was poor.. Wasn't a great game, we dominated, they defended.. Expected that, but we just couldn't finish the chances we got..

Also, on another note, I believe that Nemeth could be playing against the bitters tonight.. Hope to see him score a couple..

Okay maybe they were trying to run the yanks out at a potentially risky cost there. I think they knew that nothing would come of it tbh. It was probably more of a message to the yanks to leave rather the put the club in danger.

Most of what they have done has had an impact though, one of the the reasons the yanks are looking for new investors is to push on with the new stadium and give Rafa a budget that will rival the other top 4 teams before the fans get on the back again.
